Nice spot for day trips to the area.
So much to explore here! Clean and good facilities (kitchen/showers). Kitchen not very big, but enough these days. Still not well equipped and all a bit outdated. Coin laundry and dryer available. No internet available. Very nice long term campers and staff helping out and giving trip advice.
$36 per person for a powered site.

$10 per person overnight.
The ranger arrived at 8am in the morning to collect the money as it was currently not secure to throw envelopes into the provided box. The site has two drop toilets (modern and clean) and a dump water sink. No freshwater available. The camping ground is beautiful day and night and very quiet.
You can go swimming if you like.

This was a very busy place full of long term campers.
Less space for cars and campervans. We actually got one of the last places on the grass next to the reception where we had to use the car park to drive onto it. Enough shower and toilet facilities were available. BBQ and kitchen places available for common use.
The park is very close to the beach. Internet was available but we haven't used/checked it. The stay was $10 per person for an unpowered site. We had to leave 12 noon the next day.

Campground well situated to the highway but still a quiet location.
Enough sheltered places available, but it still got kind of busy in the evening. Two modern, clean drop toilets and a sink with fresh water available for the camper van site. This place does also have a huge place for tents including a cooking shelter.
Stunning location including the spectacular view of the mountains!

Campground not too easy to find in the dark.
In the middle of farms and greens. Just a small toilet building next to the river. No honesty box visible. No ranger to collect fees. Toilet facility old and rustic surrounded by high grass. Water out of the tap was brown (including a warning above to not drink it). River had brown water as well. Would not advise to go swimming here. It was ok for a free night!

Nice spot to relax after a days hike in the Tongariro National Park.
Enough space for campers and a quiet location too. $44 powered for two adults per night including the onsite hotpools (open 24hours). Bathrooms, pools and kitchen all good and working but a bit outdated. One public pool and three private which you can lock. The hot water was very nice to relax the muscles. Wifi has to be paid extra.

Free overnight spot directly at the coast.
Good before or after you take the ferry, even to avoid the expensive prices in Wellington. Quite busy in the evening, so don't arrive too late. Toilets not very clean anymore. Can be quite windy!

Small and cozy; extremely friendly, family operated by a retired couple.
Toilets and showers clean. Kitchen equipment very simple (no soap, etc.) - better bring your own stuff. Kitchen and common room standing open all the time, so be prepared that it's a bit colder in winter/spring. Laundry ($2) and dryer ($3) available.

$36 for a powered site for 2 adults.
Kitchen, bathroom and common room all very clean and well equipped. All common rooms haven't been heated, so very cold. Wifi has to be paid extra.
Nice and helpful staff.
