The description of this lot is accurate, and it is the perfect location if you want to stay in a cute Hawke's Bay town for the night!
If you are looking for night life, Cue Bar was local and really fun, playing awesome New Zealand music and had cheap drinks! Plus it's just up the road from where you've parked!
There is no washroom, but public washrooms are open until 9pm just down the road, or the bar is open late.
Police station just down the road, so felt perfectly safe. Cute shops, cafes, and restaurants all in walking distance. We love Hastings!

Safe and clean, loads of space, and in the parking lot of a park.
Perfect for a quick nights sleep before or after exploring Matamata or Hobbiton :). McDonalds just down the street if you want a proper toilet.

We got here in the dark, and were rewarded greatly with an incredible sunrise.
So beautiful here. Right next to the Cathedral Cove walk, it's a perfect location to see the sunrise and do an early hike! Toilets clean and well-maintained. The drive here is worth it!

The other reviewers are right - finding this place in the dark is a bit intimidating, but we managed to do it!
I would recommend daytime as it is beautiful as well. It is just a meadow with a wooden outhouse, but that's all you need! You have the most beautiful sunrise, and get to feel the sun's rays on that day before anyone else in the world. Can it get any better than that?
We loved the sunrise at the site, then going to the Lighthouse in the daytime as there are many steps up to the Lighthouse (we counted 600 each way!). The lighthouse once the sun has risen a little is just stunning, as is the view from every angle.
Watch out for wandering livestock and go slow as the road is often only big enough for one vehicle and alternates between gravel and pavement.
