New camping that has lots of hard powered sites and motel rooms too.
Clean and modern showers with stainless steel basins and paper towels. Semi open kitchen area. Showers area is closed and heated, a big plus in winter. Quiet undisturbed night, even if quite close to the road and I'm a light sleeper. Clean and functional dumping station. Fresh water available on each powered site. Spacious heated lounge area with TV and board games. Loved participating to complete the big puzzle! Warm and friendly atmosphere. Took the $7 wifi for a day. Also available at $5 for 2 hours. Used the laundry: clean and working well. Some sandflies in the sun during the day.

$18 per person for a powered site.
Showers and toilets are good and extremely clean. Quiet night. Very friendly welcome. The owner waited for me till 7:30 pm as I was late due to the bad weather. Wifi available at $5 for 1.5 Gb.

Convenient location as we were coming back from Milford sound and did not want to spend $50 on an average camp site there.
$6 pp at this DoC campground. We arrived at night and the camping spots can be difficult to figure out. Could be quite muddy, not a problem on that night as the ground was frozen. Pick a sheltered spot. We took an unsheltered one and it got quite windy.

Toilets and bathroom area need upgrading and cleaning: paint peeling off, spider webs and dust all over the ceiling, dead flies along the window seal.
Perfect location before or after watching the penguins: a couple of minutes from light house gravel road entrance.
Spent one night in May. $5 for wifi password.
Powered site on the front with sea view are quickly filled. There are many others at the back, but some on a gentle slope.
Paid $16 pp for a powered site.

$10 pp in May for a campervan.
The road to get there is beautiful. Wonderful site on a remote beach that you can reach via a gravel road, well maintained so no issues here. Arrived just before sunset and it was wonderful to walk on the beautiful beach. Was mostly empty in May but it apparently is very busy and crowded in summer.

$22 pp for a powered site in May.
Only 5 hard powered sites means you'll likely end up on a grass site. With the amount of rainfall there, it likely means wet and muddy feet. Facilities OK. Showers and toilets were ok. No paper towels but cloth for wiping basins...not very hygienic.

Beautiful and quiet free spot next to the Donegal house Irish hotel.
A nice flat gravel area. Waking up among the ducks, horses and birds near the lake was a bliss. Self contained only. Loved it for our first camping night in NZ! In May, there were 2 other campervans there.

Great freedom camping spot near to the beach.
Can be reached via a gravel road. A few spots under the pine trees on the left of the road, as you reach close to the beach. Very quiet in may with a couple of other campervans. Wonderful to hear the sea while sleeping. Self contained only as not toilets available.

$20 per person for a powered site and you have to pay $2 for 10 mins of shower.
Noisy with people let in by management continuously until late. Lots of Chinese people. Will not return. Latest group of people was let in big campervans at 11:20 pm and setting up, banging doors, moving luggage around, talking loud and even honking! This lasted more than an hour until 12:30am. Rules say to be quiet after 10:30pm and to call management to report noise. I did several times and no one picked up! How can you let a group of noisy people disturb all the other campers? I went up and asked them to make less noise, in vain! Fairly expensive for the facilities. Quite busy too.

Perfect freedom camping spot for our last night before handing over our campervan at Christchurch.
Serene and so beautiful by the lake spot. Only a couple of other campervans in May.

Choose the Otto side as it is more sheltered and further from the road.
Spent 1 night in May, Otto side was quite crowded, almost full. Toilets are good. A quiet night.

Great spot by the lake.
Quite a number of people, but not an issue as the place is huge. Spent 1 night in May and it was wonderful to see Mt Cook at sunrise. Self contained only. It's a pity to see the number of people not respecting this. I was appalled to witness someone having slept in a car taking a wee in the morning besides his car.
