We stopped at Nugget Point where there is a DOC shed to see Yellow Eyed Penguins.
It was an amazing experience to 'spy' them on the beach.

Very good spot, located close to Puketi Forest.
The campsite is just beside a river where you can have a swim or you can also access some tracks. Great free spot.

Very nice track, we saw every kind of nature, the rainforest (we were lucky with the weather).
Waterfalls. The third day was hard and it is a bit expensive.

We stayed at this caravan park for a few months and it was great.
The hosts are very friendly and helpful and we are still keeping in touch with them. Facilities are okay.

The DOC site itself was very good with loads of explanation but was not informed well enough as the person did not tell us about closed tracks.
The ranger onsite instead was great.

Walking through the forest and reaching the giant Kauri trees, that was great!
They are so impressive! There are loads of signs reminding us to protect them - maybe too many?
