Nice view of the mountains and glacier, pretty basic without toilet and no sign that this was a campsite.
Very cold at night.

Big grassy area next to the beach with very very nice toilets, taps and cold showers.
Worth the $6.

Stayed here because rangers check the self-contained camping.
Nothing special, not the best showers but kitchen is okay. Only place to stay when not self-contained.

Was good for a stopover on the way to Wanaka.
Got pretty cold at night and crowded, but a nice view of the town and sky at night. Very basic and no toilets.

4.5/5
Very nice location, best view of the mountains with direct access to Lake Wakatipu.
No toilets, no ranger, but sandflies of doom in the morning. No tap. Still one of the best (or the best) free campsite we have seen.

3.5/5
Large site, free for all sort of campers, basic stinky toilets, dirty lake (for NZ standards) but not too bad, good stopover place, not crowded.

Big grassy area with flushing toilets.
Very remote but quite crowded. Very cold at night. Nothing special, view of some fields and forests. Not our favourite.

3.5/5
Very basic camping site with closed toilets on the beach.
Only shared with 2 other campers and some seals. Showers and toilets are on the main camping site. Worth the cost.

Very nice view, toilets, kitchen area, no showers but $2/5 min showers at the public shelter in the village.
Rangers are present to check whether you have paid.

4.5/5
Very nice spot on the beach with nice toilets, good beach, fire pots and a very nice bathtub heated by fire.
Amazing at night and well worth the 1.5 hours of keeping the fire alive. Stayed there for 2 nights, among the best campsites we have seen. Very recommended.

2.5/5
Nice facilities, easy to find but not worth the cost.
View is not that great. Only ended up there since there were hardly any free ones around.
