Perfect base for 24 hours in Wellington after coming straight off ferry.
A few minutes walk from cable car, waterfront restaurants and Te Papa. It's undeniably urban! But that was a nice novelty for one night. Commuters and joggers going right past the end of the van (we were on docks side rather than road side). Full of noise and bustle being right on the docks but almost eerily quiet in the middle of the night.

A gurgling mud-pool right next to the playground (safely fenced off), steam rising from around the site, three thermal pools and being able to cook our dinner in hot steam in the hangi made this a great
base for our stay in Rotorua. Digging hot pools on the lake shore was surreal - and of course smelly. The facilities aren't as glam as a Top 10 but it's green and cosy.
Hello, Thank you for the lovely feed back. The Holiday Park is now under New Ownership and Management. We hope to see you again in the near future. Upgrades are in process as i type.

A beautiful spot right camping right by the lake.
Can't beat waking up to the sound of waves lapping and views of distant volcanoes. It was very busy on Easter weekend. We got there about 6pm and nabbed the last spot with a lake view.

Handy for its central location but the site is on very steep ground, with corners that are very tight indeed in a 4-berth campervan.
It was very stressful reversing around a bend onto the strips of hard-standing so that we could reach the power supply on our pitch.

A beautiful spot on the river estuary where children could run free on the sand while I cooked dinner.
The musical loo is charming.
The camping spot is on the right as you turn in from the road.
A popular spot for dog walkers and there are houses close by but still felt away from things. A security car pulled up around 9pm and took a note of our number-plate.
Do check out the lovely bird reserve and native swamp reserve further up the road. They're doing great work.

Wow! The most beautiful Top 10 we visited.
Big grassy pitches with attractive planting so we didn't feel at all crowded in. In fact, more private than many freedom camping spots! The fish and chip stand was a welcome treat - but it was all the bird calls including Morepork that made this place magical for us.
It is a big site, accommodating large groups but the powered sites were away from the groups. Well stocked campsite shop and very helpful, cheerful staff. You can hire a shovel to dig at the beach.
