We made a guided Tour to Waiheke Island.
Ferry was ok. The Tour on Waiheke Island was very informative and well guided. The guide was really friendly.
After the tour you could spend as much time at the island, as you wanted. Busses on the island were free.
Waiheke island is really worth a trip.

A good place to stay at the start or end of your journey, especially if you travel with kea campers.
(it's probably the nearest holiday park to the kea depot.) It's located nicely at takapuna beach. The facilities are nothing special, but ok.
The Park is very frequentet, so it's a good idea to make a reservation. (We were lucky to become the last powered site, when we stayed there.)
You can easily travel by bus/ferry via devonport to Auckland City, it's about an hour drive.

People at Kea were really friendly and helpful.
Some Personal speaks German. We had a really comfortable Camper in a top condition. The Vehicle was nearly new (only 13000 km). It was big enough for 2 people but not to big to travel on small roads.
Only some small things didn't work, for example the electric heater.

An absolutely must to do!
There's a really nice view over the city.
You have to pay extra, to go to the sky deck and it's not worth the money. You can see everythin as well at the main observation level.

There's not much to see from the pa.
There are only holes and ditches covered with grass. You have to be careful not to fall into one.
There's only a gravel road to the pa.
It's only worth a trip, if you're really into maori history.
