Good spot right by the lakefront, great views.
Great spot for stargazing. Not so many tenting places, can get crowded. Met a sleepy possum on the tree on the way to toilets. Beware of mice though, they are active in the night eating food supplies lying on the ground, no matter how packed they are. Caught one of them in the car's trunk, has been hiding there for several days. At the end it was a very expensive stay due to the damage done.

Crowded mid- March, kitchen busy with young people hanging around, no room in any fridge.
Dusty spots with hard ground, facilities older but useable. Not easy to find as there are no signs by the main road.

Good sea bathing options, cold water in the showers was reasonable warm for a free shower (mid- March).
Terrace-styled spots that can get flooded on heavy rains so think twice before choosing one. Local shop is cash-only for groceries, accommodation can be paid by card.

Convenient location close to the airport, reasonable tent places and facilities.
Lot of noise though, especially early in the morning from the nearby construction site. A bit overpriced for the $19.50 per person, showers included.
HI Tomas - i am happy to say the construction work has finished which we are all very happy about. We hope you had a great holiday around NZ
