You can choose your own spot.
Basic but clean facilities. Close to the beach (no beach view though). We came on a rainy day so the whole campground didn't look very inviting.
12NZ$ rather expensive for non-powered site. Shower coin operated (1NZ$).

New camping ground with grassy pitches.
A little bit DOC lookalike because it's all wooden (quite nice). Clean facilities with separate showers (which are free except from Christmas period). There is a huge undercover dining are with free bbq. There is a beautiful beach though you don't get the view from the gamping ground itself.
Recommended anyway.

Friendly staff.
Small shop where you can hire surf boards as well. Close to the city beach. Access to the beach only through the main gate. You can choose your own spot when you ask for it. Grassy pitches. Facilitiy block c is incredibly old. The other was just ok.
The whole place felt a little bit as it has seen better days... (like the city Gisborne itself)
Quite noisy at night with the harbor next door.
We stayed two nights no matter what.

Awesome spot.
You can choose your on spot. There is a lot of space. You can either go on a grassy area or directly on the stoney beach. You can have a bonfire on the beach (you even get marshmallows at the office). Owners were friendly. Great view with White Island in the distance.
9/10 because it is quite expensive (12$ p.p.) for what you get facilitywise (dated but clean however).
Highly recommended.

Clean and nice camping ground close to the beach.
Friendly staff. Family bathrooms and a baby bath available. Huge kitchen, well equipped. However, too pricey. Wifi not included.

Nice location with river nears.
You have your own little grassy pitch. Nice walk to the lake. Good distance to go on the Routeburn track. Too many sand flies at dusk though. Long drop toilet.

We stayed three nights.
Enjoyed the free hot tub. Free and good wifi is a bonus. Music in the bathroom was cool. Nice kitchen with sofas and tv to hang around. Staff was really friendly. Free car wash area. Free bbq. Concrete pitches, though and some of them were quite close to each other so you might not have heaps of space around the car. Highly recommended anyway.
Hi Vincent, thanks for giving us a 9 out of 10!

It's probably the only camping ground in NZ where you have your private bathroom.
That deserves a 10/10. However, no wifi and apart from fishing and swimming in the lake not much to offer. Great stop anyway. Owner was very friendly.
