The toilets are very full and smelly when you are in it, but it is a free campsite directly beside the Waikato River.
You can boil the water and drink it. Many crazy people of the river!

Exhausting but worth it.
So close to native vegetation zones, thermal streams, vents, snow (if it is bad weather), nice coloured lakes, Lord of the Rings spots..... wow, all in one day!

Stunning scenery but rare to see because of the abundant rain.

Very nice and helpful staff.
Best example maps for the tramping paths.

Magnificent trip, 2 1/2 hours for $145.
You see seals, sperm whales, dolphins, albatross. In comparison to prices for dolphin viewing, kayak hire, bird watching...... absolutely worth it.
Kia Ora, thank you for taking the time to come and visit with us in Kaikoura. We are so glad to hear that your time with us was so memorable. We hope the rest of your travels around New Zealand were just as memorable.

Took a nightwalk and saw thousands of glowworms and possums.
You do not need to spend that much money in the caves to see glowworms.

$6 per night and if you bring a gold pan and know how to use it you will definitely find some small nuggets in the riverbed.
