We needed a place near Blenheim to break the journey from Kaikoura to Picton, so chose this one as it was out of the town.
It was easy to find, even as it got dark
Initially disappointed as the allocated space for campervans is actually on the outer parking of the reserve, but we only needed sleep so not too worried.
When we awoke and went for an explore, the reserve was wonderful, well worth a visit if only to feed the ducks. Which is what most passers by seemed to do
Toilets in good order and clean, if a little basic. The grounds were well maintained.

A lovely river setting with lots of room for campers.
Some traffic noise but this did not disturb us. We did not try the toilets as we were self-contained. Surprised to see non self-contained campers at this site.

We've arrived in New Zealand ....
was my remark as we passed this picturesque spot on the Queen Charlotte Drive Scenic Route out of Picton
We were heading to a site in Canvastown, but never got there, we stayed here for 2 nights instead
Had a plot right on the waterfront, $15 each a night for a powered site, $5 for the wi-fi, showers coin operated $1 for 5 mins
I can imagine this is a busy site in the peak season, but there were very few here during our stay, so the camp was quiet and clean
Very helpful office, and a nice nature walk (30 mins round trip) up the hill behind the site where there is a chance of seeing glow worms
We watched for dolphins but didn't see any, however, there were some very friendly ducks to keep us company every mealtime

$11-20 but charged $20 and $5 for the power, no pricing structure visible so not sure why the top end ...
We stayed here only because they had availability and we needed a powered site whilst waiting for the delivery of a replacement (working) key for our campervan (don't ask)
maybe we looked gullible or rich?
The toilet and shower block was basic, but usable, the kitchen was not as clean as it could be, but that's down to users, not site owners to some extent.
Very close to the WhaleWay Station, so that's a plus.

We were concerned at first when we found it on the Rankers App, but when we arrived, it was indeed free.
A nice surprise freedom camp for our 1st night in a campervan
The Hotel have put aside a gravel area (20 spaces at least?) for complimentary campervan overnight parking.
Self-contained only, and no expectation to spend anything in the hotel, we only popped in to check it was free, and they were genuinely surprised we asked.
Spent the night next the duckpond and shared the site with only one other campervan
On departing we noticed a water supply marked for campervans so filled our fresh tank
No frills, but free

A peaceful site at the edge of Golden Bay.
We had plot 24 which overlooks the ocean and would highly recommend it. A bit tired but has good toilets, hot power showers, laundry area, kitchen and even a community room for spending the evenings. All made this a nice couple of days of rest on our road trip. Owners are very friendly and more than happy to help.
Thank you for your review and for giving us the opportunity to host you!! we love our camp and we love having guests stay with us!

Good location by the beach.
Quiet despite being very busy. Recommend getting there early to get a spot. Salt baths are a must see though was too cold for us to try them. Toilets and cold outdoor shower available. Good free camp.
