You wont believe it on the way out to this place but looking back you have the best view to Fox Glacier and Mount Cock - if the clouds permit.
Perfect sunset and sunrise views with brilliant stars in between. In our night here we even had Aurora Australis, a redish and greenish glow over mountains and towards the south. Such an experience! Good location too to go to Lake Matheson early morning for your mirror lake photo of Mount Cook. Plenty of spaces left and right the road just before and just behind the bridge. Many of them are OK for smaller campers. Bigger ones might find the access difficult, but its manageable.

Nice place, large grassy area next to the lake.
Lakeview on a few lots only. Water toilets clean and even some soap to wash hands. There is a children's camp nearby and they swim in the lake. May substitute a shower for those who are on freedom camping for longer time. No soap to use in the lake of course. Main road far away, so little traffic noise only. Well worth the $6PP. Cant get much better for a DOC.

Very clean facilities, nice owners and extremely well looked after garden.
$15PP plus $2 Wifi. On the downside tiny slots, little privacy and close to the main road.

This is a 9 for scenery and view, camping right next to the lake.
But a 3 for its too close to the main road, small gravel area and dirty basic toilets. Water available. We left the place due to the grimy sandflies. No wind, lots of bugs.

This little parking lot next to a tiny beach and park is facing the sea.
Guess not more than 5-8 campers might stay here but we have been the only ones. Perhaps nobody found this space as this app is locating it some 500m further east to the other side of the little bay. A nice guy told us where to go when we entered the no exit road next to his home.
