The site is windy but otherwise beautiful!
Take a short walk up the clayey road that continues past the campsite (you will need to climb over the first gate) and will be rewarded with gorgeous views from the quarry on top. Walk to the lighthouse is much longer and only passable on low tide.

Expensive for what you get (narrow noisy gravely strip of land squeezed between the road/train tracks and the sea).
There is no better option in the area though. But it was the noisiest site we have visited!

Got here by accident, it was not on our list, but how happy we were to discover this charming end!
The campsite is nice and clean, although in vicinity of the village. Nearby walks and sunrise at the ocean are not to be missed!

Watch for the sting rays when swimming!
Lovely little site in a relaxed bay.

We decided to spend the whole day here, but if you do not join Queen Charlotte, there is not much else to do.
Winds were strong, tides significant and the gravel beach not exactly attractive for swimming. Next time we would probably spare the drive.

This camping is a little jewel - no crowds, small, cosy and with private and clean shower/toilet block for each of the 5 sites for $15 per two adults!

The glacier retreated so much in the last few years (by hundreds of meters) that to me it seems that it lost it's atractivity at all.
I was there 7 years ago and could not recognize the place. The walk to the face also takes much longer now. A great example of warming effects though.

The track is steep but doable with little children (have to be carried).
We had our 3year old with us and it was challenging but worth it. There was another family with a baby on the hill (half a year), much faster than us though...

We've spent 3 nights there, most of them pretty wet so we were grateful for the cooking shelter.
Plenty of mice, some sandflies. A couple of cheeky Keas - actually our closest encounter in NZ with them! (they hide under the car and start stealing as soon as you step aside). Great value for a free site!

What a lovely spot!
Few Kiwi families come to spend the holidays here with their offspring, and should there be no sandflies we would have done the same. Reefton is a charming little town, not to be skipped. (-1 for the flies)

Nice spot, but we arrived on a rainy day and there were so many sandflies that we had to jump back on the car and keep on going.
Also quite noisy from the road nearby, but that was probably worsened by the wet surface.
