It was very basic, there were clean flushing toilets which is always a plus.
There were a lot of long term residence but they all seemed very friendly and said hello. The beach is a nice place to find pāua shells and there is another campsite just down the road if you want a free hot shower/use their cooking facilities. It's not bad for the price but the only major downfall is the road and train track is so close and loud it does sound like there is a massive landslide coming down which meant we were out of the tent every hour checking it wasn't an earthquake - not a great night sleep.

Great place to start Abel Tasman.
A little expensive but worth it not to have to drive at least an hour from a DOC to get to the kayak place for 8am.

Very expensive due to it's location - only a five minute walk from the town, only stayed here as our original choice fell through and we were stuck.
Bring your own utensils for the kitchen and there is paid wifi. Everything seems a little dated and old which I think if you're paying top dollar for you should have better facilities and cleaner toilets (lots of webs). Check out the glow worm trail near there, it's the best we've ever found!

Really good value for money, no showers but there is a river people were washing in.
Sandflies were only a mild annoyance and the toilets had just been cleaned so there was no horrible smell. It is quite open with only a little part with shelter so not good if it's raining.

The scenery was just perfect, overlooking the lake and mountains.
The sunset was unbeatable here. We were lucky that we were at Milford when it was amazing weather which helped and there weren't too many sandflies. Only downside was the toilet was SOOOO smelly, it made us retch.

Such a good site, really spacious but does get busy.
We had a few problem with noise from other guests and the DOC guard seemed to be friends with them which made complaining difficult so our advice is choose your spot wisely. You can't wash with shampoo/soap in the lake but there is a cabin for solar showers (BYO) and flushing toilets which were a little grubby but didn't smell. All up a good site for $6/pp

Wonderful!
The lady who runs the camp was a real gem so sweet by showing us around and pointing out a nice sheltered spot for us to camp. Facilities were great and kitchen well stocked with utensils, there was also a living room with TV
Right next to the beach with it's own access, it was lovely to hear the waves when you wake up. Everything was meticulously cared for and the price is very reasonable @ $16pp. Only downside is it's not free wifi but that too is also really reasonably priced so if you can't live without Wifi it won't break the bank.
HI and thanks so much for taking the time to review us. We're thrilled you enjoyed your stay, waking up to the sound of the sea is magic. Take excellent care, Cheers Jude

Great park, top price but worth it when you need to recover from the Southland.
Showers are unmetered and hot, wifi is free (so rare) and the camping ground is clean and well supplied. Only downside it's a bit of a walk into town but that's a small price to pay for such a good site plus you can hire bikes so no real biggy.
Hi Jess,
Thank you for taking the time to post a review on the awesome Rankers site! We are pleased you had a great stay with us, we also do a free dop-off into town daily between 4pm-7.45 pm :)

Nice peaceful campsite, very clean and a well stocked kitchen.
The Barn is no longer available for guest which is a real shame as it looked amazing but the other kitchen is nice and central.

Based on reviews we chose the Otto side, it was a small well maintained site so get there early, there a flushing toilets which are a luxury and kept quite clean for a DOC.
There are a lot of sandflies and bugs, especially by the lake which makes staying there in the day a bit of a stress so we often went into the town until it got dark.
