Stopped for lunch.
Looks a good site. The current location marking is spot on.

Easy 20 min drive from Marlborough.
Last km gravel but dead flat and alongside river channel and vines. Great site under trees. Don't go too far, limit for camping well signed. Nice wander to beach to watch surf and locals fishing. Toilets ok, and camp ground quiet even on Sat night at end of Jan whereas Marlborough sites were v busy. Thanks to Local Authority for top freedom site!

Great place to stay after visiting Cape Reinga after all the crowds had gone, had it nearly to ourselves.
The camp site was v busy and pretty crowded (having arrived late in the evening). Site manager was very helpful. No mozzies or sandflies. Nice beach views and boardwalk up river. Long coastal walks. Access via gravel road was fine in a 7m campervan. Additional charge for waste/recycling.

Great place to camp, but does slope.
Given other reviews we confirmed with a ranger that it was an official self-contained campervan site and found the sign - see photo. He warned us that it can get v windy as it is so exposed. But we had a still, clear night with amazing stars and wonderful views of the volcanoes. 2 other vans there that night. If you want there are toilets a 5 min drive back down the road, and just up the road at the ski lifts is a cafe that opens early. This is a great free place to stay and enables you to catch an early chair-lift if you want to do the Mt Ruapehu crater rim walk.

Spent our first campervan night here in mid-Jan.
Registered by phone - a tortuous but successful process and was given the combination code for entry. Great site, lovely sunset and good walks around about. A good place to start a trip and make sure the van is all working. Big recycling bins and toilets with showers at main building block.

The most wonderful place to stay.
V friendly and helpful staff, great hot showers etc. Parking right down by the water, lovely sunsets and swimming. Informative displays and centre. A walk after dark with red torches, listen, wait and the kiwis walk or run by only inches away! We saw several and 3 at once. This was our top site in NZ!
