We were really lucky with the weather here and spent a balmy evening sitting with our wine and cheese in a meadow of grass as the clouds shrouding Fox Glacier and Mount Cook cleared to reveal a picture
postcard view and the setting sun reflected on the snow-topped peaks. Just magical!
FYI Turn off is immediately left after the bridge.

Large gravel parking spot somewhat barren, but we'll worth a walk along the beach.
Good spot for a sunset. Looking for a place to stop on way in/out of this camp spot? Hokitika is an attractive laid back small town. Next to the museum is the new very stylish Fire Station cafe and wine bar with great coffee and sharing platters. Plus their own label wines.

Thank you to Rankers Camping NZ app for guiding us to this off the beaten track tiny clearing perched on the hillside.
We were the only people there for New Year's Eve. Amazing panoramic view across the valley with Tararua Ranges in the distance (worth walking up the steep track at end to the reach the top for a full 360 vista). No facilities other than a table and benches. Only downside was an overflowing garbage bin.
