Basic gravel spot, close to Queenstown and it was free.
Next to a lake, so be ready for a lot of sandflies. No toilets and you have to leave at 9am. But handy location and we would stay there again.

Because of many fines, which people got here previously, we have rather asked at the info center and they said it should be all right, if you have the blue certificate, but it has to be also on the front
window. 'Certificate on the front window must be display' says also the sign. We have stayed there and no one came, so luckily we didn't have to argue...the place is nice, basic and has dump station with tap water.

Really strange looking place.
We didn't know where exactly we were allowed to stay, because there were small iron houses, parked longterm camperbuses and water and mud on the grass. We didn't feel good and safe, so we drove another 120km to Fox Glacier.

A lot of space to park, 5 picnic tables and very clean flushing toilet.
Quiet and nice location. We would stay there again!

8, because we were not sure if it is allowed, otherwise 10.
We have asked in the info-center about freedom camps around and they were almost yelling at us there is for sure NO freedom camping and we should see the big sign "no FC" in the beginning of Hamner Springs and that we will get fined because council is more than DOC...but we found the camp anyway, there was a blue sign of self-contained campervan and we have asked DOC employee if we can stay there and it was ok...no one came during the night, but we really don't know if it is allowed or not.
