Wanted a taxi service from Fenian carpark to Oparara Basin.
Arranged a day before, was there on time, friendly driver, asked for a discount because we did not want a pick up at Fenian carpark (10 mins) in the afternoon, but had to pay full price, $35 per person.

Absolutely amazing place.
Awesome beach (20 min walk), clean and new facilities, peacocks and horses on site, friendly people, remote place without dump station and sometimes water shortage so do that before! $18 per person and $5 power, $2 shower.

Wanted to do a two day hike and had questions about it.
They were friendly and gave us a brochure, but refused to do outdoor safety (DOC does not do that anymore), seemed more interested in selling fancy stuff.

I have never seen a cave like that.
No lights necessary, tripod and sturdy shoes useful. Expect 1000 stalactites in weird shapes. 40 minutes walk from carpark.

Beautiful setting, friendly owners, clean facilities, poor cellphone coverage (good in front of visitor centre). Would definitely stay here again.

Very clean, unlimited hot showers, good facilities, good old days kiwi feel. Helpful hosts, WIFI available, $5 per hour, 1 hour unlimited data, $10 per 24 hours 500MB. NO cellphone coverage, not many sandflies.

Huge site, must be very busy in summer, beautiful long stretch of beach, safe swimming, day walks to more beaches, cold showers, free firewood for fireplaces.
Dump station, treated fresh water, your van will get dirty on the road! Difficult driving for big vans.

Absolutely no hidden costs, very friendly service, very clean and well designed van.
Had a problem with a leaking sink, needed repair. After we Wilderness they told us an en route service station in Nelson, got it fixed the same day!

Pohatu Penguins

Had a 48 hour package, well worth the money, clean and nice beach, good penguin tour, saw some in the 'get well' station and wild ones at dusk.
Little Blue and Yellow Eyed. Great guided sea kayaking, saw penguins and seals! The bush walk is very very beautiful with a waterfall and swimming hole.
