It's free, even for non selfcontained.
There is a very clean toilet around the corner, but your van is literally parked next to the road in parking bays. It's a great point to explore the peninsula, but really just an overnight option. Ocean view in Brighton is more off the road.

It's a long dirt road, and you might have to wait for the farmer to move his cattle, but it's worth the drive.
There is a stunning bay with seals on it. Unfortunately there was no shelter to cook under, which is a bit tricky in the rain.

This is a very basic campground with a tiny kitchen.
Showers are $2 coin operated. The beach is beautiful and it's walking distance to the petrified forest/penguins

The Dunedin holiday park was a cheap option to stay close to both the city and the peninsula on a rainy day.
There is a big kitchen and plenty of showers. I paid 12 dollars for a night in my van and got free internet!
Thank you for your positive review. We are so happy that you have enjoyed your stay with us and the city.

I was all by myself and it felt like the middle of nowhere.
Dirt road coming in. Nice shelter for cooking with water available. Lots of space on the grass and sheltered.

I paid $12 to sleep in my van and use the facilities.
It is basic and old, but you can cook and watch tv. Showers are not very comfortable. Good for exploring the Waitaki region.

The place is gorgeous and free.
There is plenty of parking space and a clean, new looking toilet. At low tide you can walk to the little monkey Island. There is some shelter from the wind.
