There were two parts to this site, $5pp.
We stayed at the first track to the right but if you keep heading down the road there is another place to stay at the end (but it was too muddy - and creepy).
The first turnoff takes you near the water, amazing dawn views of the mountains. There are toilets at this area as well. Its worth the drive if you want to avoid the paid campgrounds in Tekapo.

$40 for two per night, plus $7 wifi for 24 hrs and $2 showers.
The main bathroom is unisex, kitchen facilities reasonable. The wifi reception wasn't great and you are only able to use one device at a time.
We thought the customer service could improve here.
Our powered site was not level which was annoying considering the price.
On the bright side, the hot springs are walking distance as is the walkway up to Mt John.

Nice little spot, cheap at $4pp.
Spectacular views.
Lots of tiny little bugs early morning so make sure you keep your doors closed unless necessary!

The owner was so nice!
Very relaxed atmosphere. He gave us some free wifi but there was no reception at our powered site, so we had to drive near the office the next morning to use it. DVD rental $4, same price in town though.
When we checked out we paid into a honestly box, which was surprising as it was $32 for two!

Many little tracks to choose from that you can drive up and find your own secluded area right on the beach.
It can be a little difficult to find at first so try to get there while it is light (unfortunately we got there at night).
There is a toilet there as well.
In the morning we woke up to a gorgeous beach and some seals playing in the water! Lovely.

$45 for 2 per night but so worth it - free wifi, great bathrooms/spa, awesome BBQ area with big heaters for winter nights, modern kitchen and free DVD rental.
$45 for 2 per night but so worth it - free wifi, great bathrooms/spa, awesome BBQ area with big heaters for winter nights, modern kitchen and free DVD rental. The staff are great & give out hot chocolate in the morning :)
Also all facilities are maintained remarkably well. We intended on staying one night and now we are staying for four. There's also a cute kitty that lives there and loves a cuddle :3
Other parks could learn a lot from this one!
Hi Charlee,
Thanks so much for your great review, YAY we love giving out our free hot choccies during the winter months too. Hopefully you enjoy the rest of your NZ trip just as much as you did in Wanaka!
