Very famous tramp in the North Island.
The landscape is out of this world. We did the walk from Ketetahi carpark and walked to the Red Crater and then went back to the carpark. Thus we avoided the $30 shuttle bus, we did the walk in 8 hours.

The peak is close to Mt Taranaki.
I put a 7 but when I did it, it was more a 4-5! You start from Dawson Falls carpark and climb stairs before reaching the actual mount. Then it is only gravel to the top. Very steep! Unfortunately it was cloudy all the way and I could not see anything at the top. Certainly a great walk with a clean sky. 3-4 hours return.

Excellent DOC campground.
For just $20 per person, you have got a kitchen, hot showers and plenty of space to park. It is also situated near a forest where you can spot a kiwi at night. Just great!!

An excellent free opportunity to see caves and ceiling covered glowworms.
Just amazing. We did not go to the Waitomo as it was too expensive. Great fun to explore the caves on your own with a headlamp.

The closest campground to Cape Reinga.
Nice place, beautiful sunset on the beach, but bring some mosquito repellant! Very cold shower. Otherwise it is nice, $12 per person.

Quite an adventure tramp!
You follow a river and have to cross it several times, sometimes with water up to your hips! Good fun and easy going. About 3 hrs 30 mins return.
