This was one of the best days we spent on our trip of the South island.
The weather was great, we had the Sounds practically to ourselves and our guide Leicester brought us to some great spots. He really knew the area and we could see that he loved what he does. The boats were great fun to drive and after just a few minutes getting used to driving them you are free to do explore the water on your own (well within reason). If you are around this area for a few days this is one activity that you have to do.

We went with Wilderness motorhomes on the reviews we found on Rankers, and the advice we got from some friends who had hired one, and we now know that we made the right choice.
It was the first camper that we looked at and even though we spent weeks researching all the others we couldn't find one to beat this. Yes Wilderness are more expensive than the others, but what you get is an exceptional service and peace of mind if anything goes wrong - which for us it did. We had a small accident, totally our fault, which needed quite a bit of repair. Wilderness put us up in great accommodation for the night, drove hundreds of miles with a spare part and arranged for everything to be sorted within 24hrs.....and on New Years Day! We took out the zero excess policy and boy were we glad we did. It was well worth it in the end. All the little touches were appreciated; they had us hooked on pineapple lumps by the end. We could plug in our ipods, watch a few dvds and just chill in our campervan any night that we wanted to. The reception on the radio isn't great so I'd bring along some CDs if you are doing quite a bit of travelling. Being able to free camp also meant that we got to stay in some great locations for practically nothing. Everything from booking the campervan and meeting the guys at the office in Christchurch went without a hitch and I would certainly recommend Wilderness to anyone travelling. Thanks to all the folks there for making it such a memorable trip.
