Lacked knowledge on Blue Penguins on the West Coast, told us to go to Dunedin.
Thank you for coming in to the visitor centre, we are sorry you had to travel to Dunedin to see blue penguins, it is rather rare to see them here on the West Coast as someone passing through town. It can be a long, dangerous walk to find them at night time on the rough West Coast beaches. We hope you got to experience seeing the Blue Penguins and enjoyed the rest of your trip.

Nice campground, pleasant location, inconvenient location of toilets, irritating sandflies.
Bring some spray repellent for the sandflies with you , then they won't bother you.
