Drove here from Wellington to be told there is no freedom camping permitted in national parks by the local ranger.
Beautiful spot but you can't camp here without being fined.

Well kept campground.
Choose your own spot with each being amongst the trees to get some privacy. Big kitchen and loung area. Laundry has a drying room for your ski gear. Close to the chateau and walking tracks.

Simply stunning. Its a working farm so there are cows around.
But the place is huge. We parked on the edge of a cliff overlooking the beach. There are campsites hidden all throughout the area with some being beach access only (truly secluded). There are 3 beaches and climb the fence to enter teh conservation for even more stunnin views and beaches. Truly a gem for camping in Northland. Note we were there in March so it was very quiet... I imagine it can get busy. And there is only a dairy in town.... so pack appropriately.
