First time in NZ and first time using a campervan to camp.
The people at spaceships were very responsive and easy to work with. They were always quick to respond as we were asking questions and booking our trip.
Our vehicle was clean when we arrived and performed well during our 12 day trip. No surprises and we even enjoyed the "discounted" winter package.
The only negative would be that the fuel mileage was not as good as I expected and I was cautious and conscientious about mileage. We also did get chilly a few times but we were visiting in the chilly NZ winter.
Overall, our Spaceship did a great job.
Thanks Tim for your comments. We always advise all customers to keep speeds down and use the overdrive button. This acts like your 5th gear. By using the override button you will see an significant difference with of fuel you save. We are pleased you enjoyed your experience and welcome you back at anytime.

Beautiful valley with nice campground.
Facilities are dated but ok. Nice hikes in the area.
Really dark in the area so the stars on a clear night are fantastic.
One challenge for us was that the campground is a bit out of the way. It is not going to/from anything else. But the price is great.

Wet, rainy and dark when we arrived so our rating may be tainted.
The toilets and showers were very clean.
We were excited about the pizza oven, even stopped by the store to pick up a frozen pizza. But the rain, dark and need to build a fire made that less exciting.
We visited many campervan parks during our trip and we realized that we prefer the doc camps and the local regional camps best.

Perfect location if you plan to catch the ferry the next morning.
Nice easy walks to filming location for Rivendell from lord of the rings.
Facilities were nice and clean.
We were concerned about gates being locked until 8 am because we needed to be checked in at the ferry at 8 am. We called Ranger Steve early on the day of our arrival and he said "no worries". We could just have a "yarn" when we arrived and work something out.
We "yarned" with Ranger Steve and he arranged for us to leave at 6:30 am and we made the ferry with plenty of time to spare.
Great location, great atmosphere, great price, great service.

Nice facility way, way off the beaten path.
We planned to stay 2 nights but pouring down rain forced us to cut it short to one night.
Since we were one of only 2 campers in the large park, the ranger told us to pull right up beside one of the facility blocks. Made it a little better than having to trek through the rain.
Facilities are nice, but the cold shower was tough after a very wet morning walk on the Abel Tasman coast track.
The drive up and back would have been much more enjoyable if the weather had cooperated and allowed at least a 2 night stay. Not really worth the drive for one night.

Great stop along the way after you arrive from the morning ferry.
Very easy to get lunch or supplies in Picton, drive the Queen Charlotte sound road and arrive in plenty of time to enjoy the small river that runs through the area. Even in winter when we visited.
The camp cafe with coffee is also nice in the morning.
Very clean and well maintained facilities.

Stayed here 2 nights in June...and it did get a little cold.
We had a rainy day when we arrived, but a cool, clear day also. We pulled in to our site near the kitchen/toilet when it was cloudy and drizzly. Only a few other campers in the area. Very convenient to plug in and have a quick walk to the facilities.
When we woke the next morning and skies were clear, we saw that we had a great view of the mountain peak from our site. Plus we were on a mountain stream. Beautiful setting.
After a long hike I did have a challenge getting some hot water going in a very cold facility building.
Price was the highest of the doc parks we stayed in, but the easy access to Tongariro hikes and views make it worthwhile.

Our favorite site during our 12 day campervan trip.
Price is great. Bathrooms were very clean. And the setting and trails in the area were perfect.
There were only 3 campervans in the park the night that we stayed. With only 1 shower it could be a challenge if the camp is more crowded, but we never had a challenge.
The ranger did say that they are adding another block with additional toilets and showers.

Cold & rain may have impacted our rating.
We were looking for a site near Tongariro before we camped there.
We just drove by this one and pulled in. The place was empty but it was really our only option late in the day.
The manager told us the kitchen was closed but we still accessed the kitchen in the morning to make some toast and tea.
Toilets and showers were good. I did enjoy the natural hot tub.
We visited many campsites during our holiday and realized that we enjoyed the doc and regional park campsites much more than private sites like this one. And the price for the private sites was usually almost double the doc and park sites.
