Friendly staff, helpful.
Facilities kept clean, though tired in places. No extra cost for showers. Key card entry to kitchens and bathrooms. Not a wide open space kinda place, all parked close. Lovely to hear the waves, shame hedges are not shorter as to have more sites with a beach view.
I do feel it needs an update in the facilities for children, either a bouncing pillow or pool to keep kids busy and parents happy on site. They did have a games room.

Just the best Freedom camping place I have been to so far.
I don't enjoy the freedom campinug nights we have I worry about safety and etc,,,, but felt 100% safe here. Homes 100 m away on one side. Lovely big river to fish in and explore, right in your view. Then the sea towards the other way. Great 200degree views. Was a wee bit boggy in places but a huge area to find a spot in.
4 toilets and changing rooms, old and run down but not gross. We camped there in a caravan kids had fun exploring all around. Tenters arrived later plenty of room. Helped to even the cost out of the overpriced camping ground a few kms away when we had one night at each. Def be back there....:)

I read reviews saying the views were wonderful, yet I couldn't see where you would park to get a view.
We could hear the beach though. At $52 for 2 adults and 2 children I feel it is way over priced for the faculties. Very run down and boggy parking. Some of the cabins looked to be very very run down, some newer. Abandoned caravans don't help with the feel of the place. Truth is if We had driven around first we would not of stayed. If it was a fairer price I would of accepted some of this. Kids loved the pigs running around, though!

At wonderful spot.
The first time we have freedom camped, so I did feel nervousness over night re safety, but had no issue. Beach and rock pools meters away...
Seem silly that the information on the signs there is not on the information on Rankers....so here it is "what you need to camp here... A valid permit displayed on your vehicle, own chemical toilet, your own water, gas cooker."
Camping permits available from Gisborne council or isites, in Gisborne, Wairoa, Opotiki, Whakatane, Uawa Foodmarket Tolaga Bay.
I wish I had read this info before getting there.....:)

Quiet, with space and privacy.
Showers and kitchen blocks run down but fine. Beach fantastic.
No park, pool, games room, or powered sites with views.
Which makes the $62 a night for a powered site for 2 adults and 2 children disappointing. Sad thing is we planned to stay longer but decided to have more nights at Hasting top ten which works out cheaper. So I do think if it was cheaper people would stay longer.....

First night of our east coast tour....didn't realise while we were there it was one of the best parks for a while.
Lovely facilities, outdoor/ indoor kitchen was fantastic.
Perfectly clean and looked after.
Friendly helpful staff.
Good park and bouncing pillow for kids.
Great view and seconds to beach.
Pay per shower but only 50 cents for 5 minutes so fair.
Only a pool short of the perfect ten!
