Freedom camp direct on the ocean, with a long beach, more beaches nearby, good toilets, good sites, beautiful nature (dolphins, lots of mussels).

At the top end of the Cobb Reservoir.
For FREE! Beautiful place between the mountains, but very long unsealed road - 35KM, very good for tracks and tramping, fireplaces - very nice!! Good toilets and a stream, two huts not far away.

Very unfriendly when you ask for a hot shower and how long you can use it (only morning and evening for $5 for short).
Bad restaurant - do not stop there better to go to low cost Charlston Motorcamp.

Pay for nothing, a lot of tourists - we had to wait long, no good views!
The drive is only one minute! Better views are from Mount Victoria (without paying), very bad for tourists.

Amazing views to Mt Ruapehu and Mt Ngauruhoe, very good DOC campground to start to the Upper and Lower Tama Lakes as day walk too!
Good huts and facilities.

Good from Portage also, camp in Portage and make two day walks in each direction, way from Anakiwa (DOC), very nice, easy walk but awesome views over the Sounds!
Lots of camps.

Maori Village with a Maori woman guide was very good, the Geyser was great!
(The views on it very good), good nature walks in it (mud pools, little lakes) to do yourself, not so expensive like the other geyser.

So good to make your own hot pool with the spade in the beach and lie and chill in it till the high tide comes back.

Spectacular what the nature can build, a nice walk to the Hole (forest, stones) and very deep hole - surprising view, also a good lookout with stone scenery.

Very friendly and good information for Cape Reinga/Ninety Mile Beach etc.
But they tried to steal our campervan from the carpark!!

Good hut and a few sites for tents, no water inside, but toilets/fireplace and beds/mattresses, quiet and beautiful when it's good weather, easy walking.

Walk from St Arnaud to carpark @ Robert Hill boring, but then amazing!
Views from Mt Robert ridge and Lake Angelus hut - beautiful nature!

Before Christmas, very full and we searched longer for a good price - not cheap, booking over internet but over-booking problems.
Very windy on deck but good views by sun with dolphins North and South.

We go inside to see the kiwi's at the nighthouse - very cute.
But the fishes looked not very good and happy - not enough space for all the animals (sharks, penguins etc), price and info's good.

$40 for 4 hours to hire a kayak, beautiful because of the views, we saw dolphins beside our kayak, you can do it for yourself, very busy in summer - sometimes overbooked!

Beautiful view over Lake Rotoiti, good sites, friendly hosts - they looked after our campervan for free when we were on a track, good toilet and kitchen.

Beautiful campsites ( Bark Bay, Anchorage) but in summer very full and we booked before in Picton - not good because we were in stress to come to the special dates and to the special campsite.
Not good with heavy bags (very hot in summer), nice beaches to swim and relax, nice flora and fauna but sometimes the same/boring and too much people. Campgrounds are good, best place is @ Anchorage - better than Totaranui.
