Big Doc campsite, two beautiful beaches to choose from.
Will be returning for sure. We were there in February and could put our tent anywhere we felt like. Highly recommended spot to stay and visit if you are in the area.

Tapotupotu Campsite

One of the best Doc camp sites in New Zealand.
Beautiful beach and river. Bush walks and coastal walk to Cape Reinga. Do have to watch the mosquitoes and sand flies in the evenings due to you being surrounded by water.

Wageners we stayed for one night had no problems the lady at reception was very helpful, we were there in February and after the holiday madness so we could pick our spot to camp and with no neighbours
. The campsite is not all that flat but adds an interesting element. The showers were of good value, pay a dollar or two in the machine for your water as you need and were warm. Its setting and surroundings are nice and only a five minute drive up the road to the closest Four Square.
