Very steep gravel road to car park.
Really lovely 3.6 km walk to the hut. Go slightly higher for the view over Kahurangi National Park and the coast. Weather permitting.

Lovely setting near Kaka Point only $10 per person. Superb English breakfast & Vindaloo Pizza! Kevin and Sue who run the place are a very friendly couple I didn't want to leave.

Looks a bit shabby but actually toilets and showers kitchen facilities are excellent, not the most picturesque setting (next to the milk factory) But it's hokitika it doesn't matter.

Didn't cost much to get in. Exhibits include
Beyond the Roaring Forties, The Worlds Fastest Indian. Victoriana, Tuatara. All well presented and displayed.

Only 2km return but sensational waterfall at the end.
Watch the water then look at the rocks (they will move). The sunset over the surrounding area is magical.

Good amenities, friendly and relaxed. Spacious site right next to beautiful tidal lagoon. Weka for company.

Pretty expensive but you get a lot for your money-Lake Manapouri, power station, Doubtful Sound, very touristy.
Pack them in. I happened to be on a coach with screaming loud children/babies. This was not pleasant and children under a certain age should be banned from this once in a lifetime experience. What does a 6 week old get out of it anyway.

Rental car-Micro camper-pretty old car, but good value for money, only one problem so far, having driven over 5000 KM.
Company overnight couriered spare part. I am travelling alone-it would be a squeeze for fit 2 people in here + luggage.
