I chose Wilson's Abel Tasman 5 day hike because it was one of the few guided hikes with lodging and meals available in October in a national park.
The experience was wonderful: we were blessed with beautiful weather, our guides were extremely knowledgeable, the food at Meadowbank and Torrent Bay Lodge was generous and very, very good. In our group there was a variety of ages among the hikers. This contributed to interesting conversations during the hikes and around the dinner table. I would strongly recommend this experience to hikers looking for great walks with beautiful vistas but with the comforts that excellent meals and cosy lodgings provide.

Although the weather didn't co-operate during my 3 day stay at Shearwater Lodge, the experience, nonetheless, was one-of-a-kind!
Only in their twenties, guides Sam and Harry were very knowledgeable and skilled as they lead us through magical Middle Earth forests and alpine meadows, through the clouds to the highest peaks. The terrain was rugged but the pace appropriate. I loved the thrill of "skiing" down the scree slopes! At the lodge, Nicky and her "crew" went above and beyond to pamper guests with before dinner snacks, wine and gourmet meals. This 3 day experience would appeal to able-bodied hikers young and old alike.
