One big flat grass field with enough places and clean.
Nearby the beach but no view on it. It cost $10 p.p. without power. There are toilets, cold showers and a water tap. Nearby Raglan surfing area.

Beautiful place at the river with enough space and some trees for shade.
Quiet, clean spot for free and with 2 toilets. Nice to see some boats passing by. On the entry there is a still a sign on which is mentioned that you need a permit by the council, but we also didn't have it nor needed it. There is a friendly lake warden on the end of the camping site and a boat ramp. You can swim in the river. Be aware that the temperature of the water on the left side is 6 degrees higher than on the right side :)

Great free spot at the lake with a beautiful view on the volcanos and Taupo.
There is enough place and a toilet. You can park on the parking places or on the grass field. Unfortunately, we also missed the sunset as we arrived late in the evening.

Great and clean spot at the river.
Only 15 minutes from the Bay of Islands with a nice sunset. No facilities, but we didn't need that. Really nice and quiet free spot!

Great place at a lake with a lovely sandy beach and enough space.
The water of the lake was crystal clear. Too bad it rained when we were there because it is a really nice area. Several clean toilets above the campsite on the road. We didn't spot showers, but you can have a nice morning dive in the lake :) Bear in mind that you need to be there before the closing of the gate at 9.30 pm.

Nice and quiet place in the forest near the river with enough space.
Don't bother the gravel road because it is really worth it. Beside our place there was a short path to the river. There is only a toilet, no shower and it cost 10 NZD p.p. You can get information about nearby trackings and the weather forecast at the visitor centre, which you pass on the way to the camping ground. We did a nice tracking (billy goat circuit) for roundabout 4 hours. The track was indicated as easy but you need to climb a lot. Nevertheless it was a beautiful track in the surrounding hills and the forest. Bear in mind that you have no cell phone connection in this area.

Beautiful, quiet and clean DOC camping site at the Queen Charlotte Sound, just 15 minutes to the ferry in Picton.
Nice sunrise. Enough places with toilets and for only 6 NZD p.p.

Large camping ground with enough places.
We parked our camper at the beginning and the most quiet part of the camping just beside the beach so we had a nice view over the bay and Nelson on the other side. The park ward will pass by in the evening to collect the 6 NZD p.p. Be aware that the gate is closed at 10 pm. The first block contains only toilets, but there are also showers further on the camping ground.
