We stayed 1 night March ‘18 & it was really lovely.
Nita was very welcoming & instantly made us feel at home. Really chilled atmosphere with short walk to beach. Showers, bathroom & kitchen facilities spotlessly clean. The site
Is very large, but not crowded / busy when we stayed.

Great free site, 2 large very clean toilets and a drinking fountain.
Site is spacious & easy to find space March '18, either overlooking the sea or a little back from the shore. Self contained campervans only, inspectors do check. Can only stay 2 nights, would have liked to stay longer.
Within easy walk are wineries, a supermarket, coffee shop, take away, bar & quirky British car museum. For a treat we'd thoroughly recommend eating at Elephant Hill Winery 5-10 minutes walk away.

Touring New Zealand in a motorhome we'd planned to spend 1 night at Gentle Annie's, & spent 3 nights similar to previous reviewer.
Gentle Annie's is a little piece of paradise, neither sophisticated nor pretentious, just good honest people running a charming beautiful camp site & cafe. They run an honesty box for the $2 showers which is heartwarming in today's world.
The cafe food was fresh & largely home grown or organic, while the overall ambience has a bohemian feel. As a bonus the beach sunset was stunning.
If this review sounds appealing to you, then don't hesitate to stay, chill & recharge the batteries.
Thank you for your awesome comments! Glad you enjoyed your stay! Future guests, please note we don't take bookings for the camping ground as we always have plenty of space, so no need to call before you arrive, just come and make yourselves at home, we would love to have you here! What we think you'll love about your stay at Gentle Annie: Super friendly and welcoming hosts who are here to make your stay the best it can be 😄 Delicious locally roasted organic/fair trade coffee-the perfect way to start your day! ☕️ Large, private camping areas situated amongst landscaped gardens next to the beach and river-simply beautiful☀️🏝 Wood-fired pizza oven (bring your pizza ingredients with you) and BBQ, available for your use! 🍔 Awesome campers lounge, outdoor seating area Beautiful Beach 🏖 Gentle Annie Point Bush Maze with stunning coastal views🌴🌅 Free Wifi 💻 No Checkout Time 💤 Hot Showers 🛀 Great fishing and swimming👙🎣 Bonfire on the beach 💫🔥 Super friendly and relaxed atmosphere 😀 Cozy fireplace 🔥🔥 in the lounge area-perfect for this time of year! Jessica's famous homemade baking! Travellers Paradise-you won't want to leave!

We hadn’t planned to stay at Jackson’s Retreat, but decided to move inland from the west coast before Cyclone Gita hit the South Island.
What a little piece of paradise this proved to be. Lovely site including a beautiful waterfall & glow worms, superb bathroom & kitchen facilities all spotlessly clean, and really friendly helpful owners.
We loved our 2 night stay despite it being during the cyclone, it must be even better in normal weather. Cannot recommend it highly enough, would have rated 11/10 if we could!
Thank you Nigel & Annie, thankfully we didn't get the full brunt of Gita that others got but she made our piece of paradise a little more dramatic.
Enjoy the rest of your South Island adventure and we hope to see you again,
Regards Toni 02/18

We rented a Base Jumper 2 for a 3+ week trip on both islands.
Booking process was excellent, as was the follow up as we approached our rental date - lots of information to help plan the journey.
From start to finish the Wilderness team could not have been more helpful, and instantly made you feel a valued customer.
The motorhome was very well designed & cosy even on some cold nights. It's free camping ability was impressive - I suspect the motorhome could manage 3 or more nights without power hook up or batteries charging from driving. It was well equipped & economical, and an easy size to manoeuvre anywhere on the islands.
Only reason I gave 9/10 rather than 10/10 is our motorhome had a few very minor annoyances (drawers not staying closed etc).
Wilderness are definitely to be recommended.

Lovely quiet little site, a short walk to harbour & close to some lovely beaches / hot springs.
Unassuming site, but very clean & nice, owner goes out of his way to be helpful & informative. He told us about the hot springs a couple of km away (only us & 2 other couples on an enormous beach) and lent us big spades to dig our own hot pool despite having already checked out from the site. Gave us other great local travel insights. Free wifi - we wish we could have stayed longer

Lovely site a few minutes off the SH1 and a few minutes to the beach.
Has to be the cleanest facilities we've found in NZ, Margaret was delightful at check in & very helpful. Be aware very limited options to eat out within walking distance

Clean, small site, great location for Picton - Wellington ferry.
Has a pool & payable spa. Early November & hardly any restaurants open in town.

Good location near restaurants & supermarkets.
Good facilities, very clean toilets and showers & good quantity too so no queues. Didn't try them, but swimming pool & 2 hot tubs looked lovely & were popular. Good site

$40 per 2 adults, free showers.
Nice location opposite beach. Facilities disappointing; toilets ok but small & no hand dryer or paper towels, shower block only ok & was cold as no heating. Not up to other Top 10 sites we've visited

Lovely site, really does feel like you are in the rainforest.
Showers and toilets clean & good, renovations underway for an additional block which will make it even better. Staff delightful, $39 for 2 adults & free showers. Nice bar & restaurant on site

Very nice site, stayed 2 nights to enjoy Queenstown.
$45 per night for 2 adults. Showers free but wifi expensive ($15 per 24 hours or $25 for 72 hours). Great location, easy walk into town & near gondola. Quirky dump station made unpleasant task nicer

4.5/5
Great location between beach & glow worm dell.
Room for 14 powered campervans & further unpowered sites. Kitchen facilities good & clean, likewise showers / toilets. We had entire campervan site to ourselves so very peaceful. There are only 3 showers so would be busy in peak season, although spa has further facilities but was closed during our stay. $40 for 2 adults, free showers & wifi for multiple devices.

$40 per 2 adults, free showers.
Staff very friendly, lovely clean site including toilets and showers. Only small negative is when using dump site it blocks access to some other sites, but not a big deal. Good location 20 minutes walk into town centre & near 2 big supermarkets.
Thank you for your lovely review we loved having you both stay with us, hope you can come back and catch up again!

Lovely site, although only a few Km off the highway it's very quiet and tranquil.
One of the larger sites we've stayed on in NZ, the upside being good facilities; hot spring pool, tennis court & pétanque court etc all free.
Toilets / showers / kitchen all nice and clean, showers free. Friendly staff, and separate designated pet friendly area which is good if you have a pet & good if you haven't. $46 for 2 adults on large powered campervan site

Nice location overlooking mountains.
We cycled into town (around 2 km - uphill on return!) but campsite has courtesy bus. Free wifi for multiple devices but slow connection. Showers & toilets good / clean, free DVD library, nice spa. Helpful friendly staff
Hi Nigel and Annie,
Thanks for your comments :) We now offer phones for our bikers so if that hill gets the better of people we can pick them up ;)

Ok site, cramped & crowded with caravans rather than motor homes.
Beach within walking distance but no bar or restaurants. Whilst people friendly it felt more a local site & facilities were so so - showers $1, toilets ok.

Amazing views & free, it doesn't get much better!
No facilities so must be self contained, seems many folk had fire pits going on previous nights. Site fills up early so don't leave it to last minute

Beautiful scenery & nice location.
Our stay was unplanned as Milford Sound road closed, but so glad we did. Doc site so $6 per adult & only facilities are long drop toilets. Nice 40 minute circular nature walk to Lake Gunn, well signposted.

Lovely site, nice facilities but showers $2 - as unisex facilities we easily shared one shower (you get 10 minutes for $2).
$40 for 2 adults, wifi via payable iac card ($5 per 24 hours). Great views as on the lake, walked into town for dinner - a few places to choose but don't get there too late as many were closed by 21.30 (but this was late Oct '13, may be different in summer season).
