The Wilderness staff were fantastic.
Picking up and dropping off our camper was quick and easy. We were confident that we could ring them up with any problem that we had (although the whole five weeks went so smoothly that there was no need!)
We fell in love with our dinky Dart 2 (we named ours 'D'artagnan'). Everything we needed, drove superbly. Faultless!
Would give 11/10 if we could, highly recommend.
Thanks for a great experience Wilderness!

Thoroughly enjoyed this place, much better than Te Papa in our opinion.
Really detailed history of NZ in terms of people and flora/fauna. Well worth a visit!

Pros - central location, free Cons - noisy (we stayed on a friday night, lots of boy racer flooring past meters away from your head until the early hours), no flat sites - we were on a serious incline

Lovely place - next to a stream, lots of tui and fantails.
Didn't use the outdoor cooking facilities but they looked good. Lovely hot showers. $20 for a powered site, very reasonable!

Nice location by the river, v peaceful.
Toilets facilities were filthy. Sinks blocked with leaf litter etc, made me wonder where the (albeit small, $8 for 2 adults) fee 'for maintainance' was going exactly. Maybe its a different story in summer.

Busy but pleasant site, set in native forest which was lovely.
Good toilet/shower facilities. The spa was broken whilst we were there.
Staff were friendly, particularly the receptionist, although when we enquired about the spa being broken, there was no apology or offer to use the private spa for free.
Food and drink at the on site restaurant was cheap (there is a budget menu available) but it showed in the quality.
Can't remember price exactly but was approx $25 for a powered site

Very pleasant site.
Friendly owners. Good, cosy kitchen area. Clean toilets. 4 minute $1 showers. $20 for a powered site.
The campsite is an open grassy area which was very water-logged when we were there - this caused a problem when trying to leave. we got stuck in the mud! But quick as a flash the owner (still in her dressing gown) came out to help push, as well as another female camper. A great example of helpful, dont-mind-getting-their-hands-dirty kiwi women! We were very impressed!

The beach has an abundance of driftwood so we had a fire. Few dogwalkers but very quiet apart from them!

At $50 for a powered site, it was by far our most expensive stay.
But if you consider that the price includes parking for the whole day (and night) which isn't going to be cheap in central Wellington, the facilities were modern and clean and the site is minutes away from the Interislander...$50 seems quite reasonable! The road that the site backs onto could be a little noisy at night, ear plugs are recommended if you are a light sleeper!

Free, right in the middle of town, great views over the lake.
Only downsides are the lack of toilets (although I think there are public toilets not too far away), and it was quite busy - get there early if you don't want to be disappointed!

Great value - $10pp for a powered site.
Good hot shower (only one, but that was fine as there was only us and one other camper there). Clean toilet and washing up area.

The view sold this campsite to us - we had a blissful evening sat on the wharf watching the black swans gliding gracefully on the lake.
Wonderful quiet spot. Toilets basic but fine.

One of our favourite camp sites!
The location was amazing - you are metres away from lush native kauri forest, the air is full of birdsong. We did go out into the forest after sunset to try our luck at kiwi spotting but to no avail! Was a great experience all of the same. Great base to explore the park from.
$10pp for a powered site, with clean hot showers (at no extra cost) and good cooking facilities and clean toilets. All well maintained. Great value!

Lovely grounds (with lots of fruit trees, a creek, on site alpacas!).
Kitchen facilities were excellent with lots of cutlery/cookware free to use. Great hot showers. We used the on site kayak company and had a great time, our instructor was friendly and thorough! Not a bad word to say about the place!

Gravel parking area looking onto the lake, very pretty.
No facilities. Toilets were locked (not a problem for us as we were self contained, but could be if not!) Looks like the site is having a major renovation soon according to a poster on site. Easy drive to Wellington from there, and its close to the lovely town of Martinborough.

AMAZING!
Beautiful setting - the falls, the lake, lots of birdlife..bliss! The park is huge and we had the place pretty much to ourselves (we did stay at the site in July)
Modern, clean toilet block. At just $5 per person, the campsite is great value.

Beautiful spot - apart from a few surfers we had the place to ourselves!
Basic, clean toilets and an onsite dump station. Beautiful sunsets!
