We recently spent 2 wonderfull weeks in NZ and River Valley Lodge & Stables was the highlight of a country of highlights!
The location is off the beaten track.... but don't worry, take your time because it is all worth it.
We stayed in our camper the night before our horse trek, next to the rushing river and awoke as the sun started to creep over the valleys edge.
We availed of the 2hr beginners horse trek. Huge appreciation goes to Lizzy and her colleagues. The horses are exceptionaly well trained and very easy to manage even for a beginner.
One word for the scenery on view....... Wow!
We also enjoyed a massage in the spa (highly recommended) and had access to the hot-tub.
All staff were friendly and attentive and as we arrived went above and beyond providing a treat on our over-night.
I don't want to sound too gushing, the prices are on the higher side, however the staff and location deliver good value for your buck.
We honestly couldnt fault our stay.

On the last night our our NZ holiday we managed to squeeze in the Kayak glow-worm tour.
We are so glad we did!
As dusk fell the group (and nearby hungry ducks!) munched on crackers / cheeses and wine while the kayaks were readied.
Then began our dark paddle up lake to the boat tour.
We were beginners, but the pace was fine and there was good banter amongst the three kayaks.
The glow-worm experience was very beautifull.
Then a dark star-lit paddle back.
Thanks to the guys who were great guides and capped off an exceptional holiday in NZ

We arrived here at about 6pm on the first day of our NZ trip.
We were worried that the camp would be closed but we were welcomed by the woman who run the campsite.
The campsite is on a sand spit right next to the dunes and a couple of hundred metres from the coast road.
There were about a dozen vehicles on site but there was no noise. The only noisy neighbours are the birds residing in the reeds behind the campsite!
Facilities are spartan, but function fine.
The beach is quite beautiful with a picture perfect sunset and good views of nearby Whale Island.
So considering the modest cost ($6 per adult), adequate facilities, beautiful surrounds and warm welcome we were most impressed with this campsite.
