One of the best campsites we visited - beautiful views, clean toilets and secluded sites separated by bush.
Right at the entrance to the Heaphy Track - a must do when in NZ!

Only had a day walk to Katipo Creek shelter and back to Kohaihai campsite but would def do the whole track one day - amazing views, beaches, forest - very unique part of South Island - a must do!
Lots of sandflies as you'd expect on West Coast.

steep walkway to the top of the falls for the more adventurous and fit!

Great experience, we went around 10am (it is only open in low tide) and for $5pp it is a 15 min walk to the wide beach and the caves - when we came back to the car park an hour later there was a queue
so probably best to get in first thing

Went in October and it was mostly empty but you have to book ahead in Summer months - great spot with beautiful beach and amazing walks nearby.
The road to it is quite steep and rough (about 20km) but worth it ($9pp) - only cold showers and no lights at night in toilets.
