Hired the 4 berth older Mitsubishi Canter diesel for 10 days Christchurch north South Island across on ferry to Wellington.
A total of 1400ks. Efficient operators at depot but many of the vehicles minor scrapes were not recorded on the damage inventory copy which we looked at after departure. Fortunately we were not challenged on drop off. Discovered 90 k top speed on pick up but we kept off main highways for most of the time and anything over 90 was seriously scary anyway. Front suspension was a shocker on anything but minor bumps especially with forward control seating position. Little frontal crash protection - no air bags. Manual was fine and exhaust brakes fantastic on the long windy downhills. Extra width body was a worry on some of the minor roads and narrow 2 way bridges. Consider the extra insurance premium for peace of mind. Price good, Well designed layout, clean and well equipped but dated. Fridge was very small restricting supplies. Bedding covers clean but past their use by date. Rear bed wonderfully huge and comfortable. Excellent vehicle handbook. Would consider this company again but would pay extra for better and safer cabin comfort.

This place is a blast from the past and well worth a look.
Checked in for an overnight stay with our rental campervan. We found it a small quiet park with powered level site, plenty of space ( only 3 other vans when we stayed), friendly neighbors and a natural ocean view immediately out our rear window. Slept to the sound of rolling surf and woken by a magic sunrise, Facilities are reminiscent of the 60's beach experience with a few mod cons. Everything worked well for us once we worked it out and it was clean though obviously dated. Caretaker Kerry was as cheerful, helpful and hospitable as you would find anywhere. Great surf even if the water temp was a bit on the cool side.
