This is a great holiday park!
We've stayed at about 18 holiday parks this trip, and this is one of our top 3 or 4.
We were in a campervan, at a powered site. The sites are lovely, grassy under tall mature trees. The owner, Brent, was very friendly and helpful. The facilities were clean and in good shape.
But the real treat here is the animals. Brent keeps sheep, a pig, a wallaby, a tame deer, a couple of rheas. Some ducks hang out there too. Twice a day he fees them, and you can help. Great for kids ... of any age.
Thank you so much for your great review. We love it when people really understand what we're about and enjoy our Park as it is set up to be enjoyed. Thanks again - Lynn and Brent

We have stayed in about 18 campgrounds in our campervan this fall, and this wonderful holiday park gets my NUMBER ONE vote!
There are almost too many features to name. Great pitches, clean bathrooms - you can see your reflection in the sink - and very friendly staff. Daniel was so helpful both times we stayed there. There are tons of extras, including, can you believe it - FREE wifi! They also offer complimentary rides into town, even though it is an easy 20 minute walk, a great car wash and vacuum, and two lovely tubs of herbs that they grow for you to use in your cooking! I just cannot say enough about this holiday park. Top notch all the way!
Hi Barbara,

Great value for your money here.
We rented an "Escape 4" campervan for 3 weeks, driving around the South Island. Van was in perfect shape, and spotless when we picked it up. Staff at Wilderness was very friendly and worked with us to make our trip successful and easy.
The Escape 4 is just a bit larger than many other motorhomes we considered, at a very reasonable price. It was just right for us. Many people stopped us to admire the van.
We're Americans and had many questions before we arrived. Wilderness was very helpful every time, always answering emails within a day or two. When we picked up the van, Wilderness picked up at our hotel across town; when we dropped off the van, they delivered us to our hotel.

We loved this park!
For starters, it is a very short 10 minute walk right into the center of town. The staff was super helpful and gave us a pitch under some lovely trees very near the bathrooms. The bathrooms and common areas were spotless. I discovered a bathroom on the women's side that was self contained - shower, toilet, sink - so I used this mostly. There is also a sauna in this bathroom that you can rent, which would be wonderful in the wintertime. One of the best things about this camp is its creativity. It has a "steampunk" theme. Someone has spent a great deal of time building fun steampunk features. The best of all is the dump station, with a flushing steampunk toilet for the black waste. I could have spent a long time exploring this park, just looking at all of the steampunk art that someone has created. Even if you never stay at this park, you have just got to visit to see the fun. But do stay. I would say that it is in the top two or three of my 18 camp experiences on the South Island.

Even though the Glenorchy area is as close to heaven as you can get, it was sad that this was the most run down and neglected holiday park that we visited this fall.
We wish that we had driven down the road, past the town limits, where freedom camping is allowed for all. For our $35 fee, I would say that the only advantage we got was a place to plug in. The bathrooms were shabby and the combination code did not work.on the women's side. Two discarded old couches sat on the front porch of the common area. Just very run down.

While we did have a great view from our pitch, and the manager was friendly, I could not recommend this park for several reasons.
For starters, the dirt road into the park is so badly rutted. It is like driving over a washboard. When we arrived, we could not find anyone at reception. Eventually the owner did show up, but it was frustrating to ring with no response. To reach the bathrooms from our pitch, you had to walk down a steep dirt trail. If it has been raining, it would have been a slide through the mud. The rubbish bins were overflowing and the facilities just had an overall run down appearance. There was an ad posted for someone to come to work in this park to help maintain it. Obviously, the folks who run it are unable to keep it up at the current time.
