Nice and quiet, no facilities.
Beautiful stargazing at night. There is a tavern (the only eats in town) across the street which is decent for a pub and great for a beer.

So here is my thing- I really enjoyed freedom camping and not having to pay but we were really craving hot showers so we 'splurged' for one night.
The facility was absolutely wonderful, very clean and quiet. We also caught a wonderful sunset which was a nice bonus for us!

Stayed here before heading to Abel Tasman- you park in a basic lot(and pay attention to the signs about where you can park as the police were enforcing) but just over the berm is the salt water bath and
the ocean. Clean, flush toilets and there was an outdoor shower although it wasn't working when we were there. But that didn't bother us as we were self contained.

Absolute beauty and solitude at it's best!
We were fully self-contained which allowed us to stay on this beautiful beach location just north of town. The sound of waves all night long was just amazing! I read there was a toilet on the site but it wasn't highly visible if there was-either way it didn't effect us.

We were low on gas and were stuck here for the night until the gas station opened in the morning.
I didn't heed the warnings of the reviews, but despite having no wind at night the wind was rocking out camper van all night, the road noise was very loud, and it seemed to be a train transfer station. So trains would be pulled up the hill by one engine, switch engines outside the site then go on their merry way. My husband didn't sleep much and we were in a camper van, at least a half dozen people were in tents.
