Great location next to the river and who can complain when you don't pay anything?!
A sweet spot right on the river, nice grassy green lawny stuff, some big shady trees and when we were there at least..lots of people. We found a lovely grassy patch up from the river away from most of the crowd right down by the river. Toilets are long drop and very, very ordinary...this is dry retch territory! Made a dodgy curry for dinner and luckily our Wilderness van had a toilet which saved the awful prospect of multiple trips to the public facilities.

What a gem!
We arrived late on a very busy day at a very busy time of the year..it was raining and blowing a gale, knocked on the owners/managers door, waited for the smoke to clear and were greeted like old friends. They found us a lovely powered spot ($28 per night) near the brand new/sparkling clean toilet block and we were all good. Rugged up and walked 5 minutes down the road to the very quaint Bannockburn Hotel which has some truly lovely old motorbikes on display in the dining room..warmed up near roaring log fire in the front bar, chatted to a couple of toothless red faced fat guys in flannelette shirts and got stuck into a couple of glasses of the local wine.Merrily made our way home in the torrential rain to cook up some just bought Mt Cook salmon steaks with a proper hollandaise, new potatoes and asparagus..oh and a rather cheeky bottle of Squealing Pig Sav Blanc...oink oink

Very friendly welcome and a choice of spots (we were asked if we wanted to be secluded or with others, close to the amenities etc) An absolutely stunning location with incredible views across the lake
to Mt Aspiring...top notch! Great walks around the lake, clean facilities only downside was $1 for a 5 minute shower (water was hot tho!) Washing machines available but says takes 25mins when they take more like 45 mins...overall one of our favourite places to stay, we had lovely quiet secluded un-powered sites which cost us $28 for the night. noice!

A free camp with absolute beach frontage..nice find!
Sweet spot with gorgeous views over the bay, went for a swim and took a walk around the coast. A few other campervans when we were there but it was peak season, we went right to the end (near an old bus shelter) and got a lovely patch of grass and the end of the bay to ourselves. This is a ripper spot for a freebie.

What a find!
Rang up and spoke with Nigel who also suggested we could park our camper on their property amongst their 20 acres of vineyards...umm yes please! So we hired two of their super bikes (with bottle holders - 8 bottles for us for the day thank you very much) and after having a route explained we took off...what a sensational way to tour the Marlborough wine region, lovely sunny day, about 8 wineries visited with an amazing lunch at Alan Scotts to soak up some grog and all in all a very happy day. The best bit was returning our bikes and weaving 10 metres back to our camper parked amongst the vines, no one else in sight an amazing sunset..bbq lamb and a couple of bottles of pinot gris and sav blanc..um yes please may i have another?
Absolutely sensational!

What a Mango!...so we needed to find a place close to the ferry and this is only about 10 minute drive away.
A DOC place with clean toilet facilities, lots of space on well looked after grounds and super water views..whats not to love? some little secluded spots tucked away and more right on the waters edge...when the tide goes out (which seemed to happen very rapidly and extensively) we walked out on the sand and collected a bucket full of mussels fresh from the sea. We cleaned them up steamed them open with some white wine and grilled them with a tomato salsa and a pumkin and kumara concotion..couple of large glasses of pinto gris what a treat! Make sure you pay the fees ($6 per person) as there is a very determined DOC camp inspector lady who will go out in all weather to make sure you have. Superb!

A great freebie camp site..toilets are clean and maintained every day by the local council-well done chaps!
Has a big grassy area but not a lot of spaces for campers, we shared with another 4 or 5, bit of comings/goings with locals in the car park nearby..dogging and dog walking:) Beach is well bit like an english one really-lots of rocks. Wouldn't fancy swimming here. Is close to Napier and gets extra point cos it is free and has nicely maintained grounds/facilities. Tarot reading gypsy bus with authentic looking gypsy lady parked next to us..was on holidays though and not keen on reading my cards..Dinner was beef stuffed with onion and sage/new potatoes with butter, beans and carrots and another excellent bottle of pinot noir from our great friends in bannockburn. Ole!

A sweet spot i'm sure when there isn't torrential rain and force 10 gales...didn't get a peak at Mt Cook through the cloud or rain but the location was spot on.
Cooked a really good spag bol had a bottle of red, battened down the hatches and enjoyed the rocking sway of our wind battered van aaaaaarrrrrr

We had a base jumper 2 for a month and had the time of our lives..super camper with everything you need.
The service from Wilderness was top class couldn't be happier with the way they handled our booking from the first email to the last sad goodbye..truly great company that really do care about providing world class service (and no they haven't paid me for writing this:) Well done to Claudia, Mike and Marcel and of course to our sensational camper who was the ultimate conduit to a totally awesome holiday. Choice.

It really is all about the location..very friendly staff on reception who were getting slammed with phone calls/people..gave us choice of spots for our camper.
Very cramped but the grounds are really beautifully presented and the facilities are quirky and clean..probably could do with another couple of showers/toilets. 5 minute walk to the middle of town/gondola/fergburger..can't beat the location but the price reflects that at $55 per night for a powered site. So after we plug in and power up it's off to town..first stop fergburger..after the obligatory 40 minute wait...the Big Al and life will never be the same again.Choice bro.

Beautiful location in a DOC area, choice of 6 or so camp sites which when we were there not very full..we went to the last campsite on the dirt road in - Trestle View, which was fantastic.
Couple of long drop toilets which were clean and not smelly..cost per person is $10 per night which we thought was very good value considering the location. We walked from our camp to the Pinnacles in a day (about 7 hours..bring your best legs for this walk) and enjoyed coming back to our camper for a hot shower a cold beer and a big fat steak and mash...oh and a couple of glasses of very good central otago pinot noir. Bugs were about after dark which we avoided with a combination of pretending they were not there/citronella candles and alcohol. This place was so good we stayed two nights. Thank you New Zealand you have done it again.
