This Wildlife Center was a highlight of our 2 week visit to New Zealand.
We were able to see a baby kiwi plus 2 adults in their exhibit. The grounds have lots of wildlife to view. It is not well advertised, so the tourist traffic is low.

This was one of the highlights of our 2 week trip in New Zealand - south and north islands.
Definitely take a guided tour. Our guide helped us understand the hard work being done to restore the biodiversity plus pointed out wildlife that we would have missed. This is not a zoo, it is an urban reserve.

Our kids loved the thermal pool in the rain, and the jumping pillow. Great camp.

Easy walk over the bridge to town. Kitchen facilities are quite large with lots of room to spread out.

We had wonderful experience with KEA.
Rented a 2+2 Flip Top in Christchurch and ended in Auckland 12 days later. 2 Adults with 2 children ages 11 & 13. The service was excellent; pickup in Christchurch at our hotel and delivery to our hotel in Auckland; everything we needed was provided; vehicle was in good shape. The tourist radio provided was extremely helpful. I would definitely rent from KEA again.

Very easy to reach with lots of glowworms in the dell.
Free is a very good price ! As a result, we avoided spending a lot of money to see the same phenomenon in Waitomo ! And, this is wonderful setting close to the beach.

Yes, it can be busy but no more so than lots of places.
Interesting rock formations and blow holes. Take your time and enjoy the waves crashing and scenery.

Fairly easy walk up the valley to the glacier face.
Can only go onto the glacier as part of a paid tour, but this free walk was still worth it. Better than Franz Josef, IMHO.

Monro Beach Walk

Pleasant walk thru the forest to the beach.
We saw quite a few penguins walking back to their nest sites from the ocean - although from a bit of a distance. Very enjoyable visit.
