This was the highlight of our trip along the north coast of South Island and what an amazing way to see the sounds.

We were met by Brian and his daughter at the quay and taken on a beautiful boat trip through outer Pelorus sound out to the reserve, stopping to see shags, penguins, gannets and seals on the way. On arrival, we had a lovely lunch with Brian and Ellen and learnt about their 20 year long project that is the nature reserve. Brian then took us on a great tour of the reserve which had beautiful bushland, birdlife and views. He shared many stories of the joys and challenges of their project. We then relaxed in 'Tui Haven' a sweet cottage with enchanting views of the sounds and warming wood burner.
