Large campsite on beautiful location.
Normally priced. Lot of sites have lake and mountain views and direct access to the lake. Toilets are ok, kitchen is too small for the site, and old. The new shower/toilet building is nice, however you have to pay fro the shower, which I never like.

The owner gave us the most horrible site while nice sites with views were still free.
After a quick question we could move to a better site with some views. Well equipped kitchen and clean showers with free warm water. Close to a lot of nice things to do on the peninsula. Probable biggest concern, a bit a boring location with views to the other site of the small valley.

Great site at the lake and close to the river.
We had beautiful views at our powered site. Toilets and kitchens are ok.I don't like to pay separately for my shower of WiFi, if the costs os the campsite are already high.

Beautiful campsite.
very quiet and peaceful, close to a forest with a lot of birds and an inlet with sea lions and spoonbill. Good showers with free water and well equipped klitchen. We could even use the fireplacxe to heat up the kitchen. Great place and probable best of our trip.

Great location with the most beautiful views.
Close to the Petrified forest, a beautiful spot with some yellow eyed penguins. We also saw a young penguin very close to the campground. If you're lucky you will see the Hector Dolphins in the bay.. The facilities are all very new and the kitchen very large with enough space. Don';t like to pay for showers with limited time. Due to rain our site was muddy. A beautiful spot, not to be missed!

Nice location with view on lake and mountains.
Long drop toilets were clean, however with the amount of visitors not enough. Had to que up in the cold to go to toilet. No kitchen, no other facilitates, however priced the same as Holiday Parks with all facilities, so way overpriced. Will not come back.

Small and nice campsite.
We asked for a powered site and got a nice place to park our camper van, however one hour later all powered sites were full and it looked more like a parking than a campsite. We decided to drive to the other site of the road for unpowered sites, a large grass filed, and had a great view on the ocean. The children loved it and played the whole evening with all the bikes. Free warm water and well equipped kitchen.

Nice place with great views on the beach and fiordland mountains in the distance.
Free, with toilets and Rubbish bins. It was very windy and we could park the camper in such a way that we were out of the wind.

Large campsite, and therefore not every site has the same view on the lake.
The toilets/showers and kitchen were clean and very complete and free showers,.Close to town, lake and a nice bird sanctuary.

Nice simple campsite.
very cheap and beautiful location. If you have a self contained camper van it's even better to drive 1 km back to Lake Tekapo and stay here. This is a top-location. Toilets on campsite were clean.

Biked ion the nice scenery, tasted wine and picked cherries.
A beautiful day, and for originally from the Netherlands, it was very nice to bike in a flat land.

Good campsite with good management.
We camped close to the lake with great views on the mountains and with a lot of open space around us. Good showers and kitchen. Be aware that the lake is a bit colder than the Wanaka lake.
Love your comments. Thank you for taking the time. Lake Hawea is 392 m deep so that might be why it is a little more refreshing than Wanaka. One thing though it is crystal clear and you can drink the water while you swim. Lake Hawea is also quieter.

Stayed here for the second time.
Camped with 2 little tents in the dunes close to the ocean. The children loved the flying fox, toilets and kitchen are good. Very noisy due to traffic on highway 1 and railroad.

Based on all the reviews we picked this site.
We weren't the only ones, the campsite was packed and there was no space anymore. Luckily we were allowed to stay on the "airfield", which was a nice and quit spot. To probable get rid of the sand flies campers had smelly campfires and they were driving their quads to the beach and back. If you go in another season and probable is a nice place, however we will not come back.

Glacier is almost gone.
A long easy walk, however the walk stops still far away from the glacier and you can't get a real feel for it. It's worrying that the glacier is melting so quickly.

Large campsite.
We stayed on the far end with 2 little tents on a large empty field. We loved it. Toilets and Kitchen are very clean and well equipped. The heated pool is very nice. They are in the midst of building an additional larger pool. The only criticism is the price, which was very high for 2 little tents on a campsite.
Thanks for your feedback Roeland, We do have a wide range of facilities onsite that are included in our rates, with the use of the pools etc, we feel our rates are very competitive.

What an amazing scenery.
Yes, very steep, especially when bringing your gear for sleeping in the beautiful hut. The scenery, views and bit of adventures during second part of the track is one of the best we had in New Zealand.

We stayed on the new camp site, which is nicely located at the inlet and close to the water for kayaking.
The new site is a bit empty with no trees. The toilet and washing block are new and very very good. The park itself is nice, with a nice beach and good walking tracks. The only issue we had was that the traffic on the nearby road made to much noise. Compared with other camp sites in the area, this one was a little less favorite.

Back to basic on this fabulous DOC site.
A 2.5 km dirt road leads us to a beautiful campground, close to an amazing beach. The only sound we hear are the birds and the waves in the far distance. The limited facilities are clean and we probable picked the best place, with views to the bay.

Mixed feelings.
We stayed on the campsite with a couple of families and had a great time. We were lucky to had the best sites, with views on the hills and sea, and close to beautiful snorkeling. The bonfire was great, especially with our own guitar man! Why not a higher rating: Not enough showers and other facilities for the amount of campers and the price was way to high for what we've got.

Beautiful campsite at the end of the Coromandel.
Take a while to get there, over a great well maintained dirt road with magnificent views over the Hauraki Gulf and Great Barrier Island. Bring enough food with you, because the closest shop is more as an hour drive. The beaches are beautiful with great snorkeling and the Coromandel Walkway is stunning. Only very small remark: the managers were taking the fire ban a bit to far to ask us to blow out our candles, which we used as our light and drive out mosquito s.

Great experience.
I went in with my son (10) and daughter (13) and it was tough, but doable. The water was warmer then expected and it took us an hour. Once in a while the stream is going really fast and I needed to help the kids go over it. It was just a lot of fun!

If you stay at the waterfront it would be a great campsite, however our spot was in the third row.
On this campsite there is absolutely no privacy, no trees, no nothing, so a very boring spot. If you like to camp in nature, like us, this is not your campsite. Kitchen and toilets are fine, however strange that the radio is always on, even at 6am. Its not our campsite and we will not come back.
We are very sorry you felt this way, we do hope you find the campsite you are looking for. Kind Regards, The Team at Whangateau.

Never had such an expierence, escpecially not in New Zealand.
We called the campsite and we got a friendly message saying that they will call us back. They didn't, so we just went there. When asking for a site they already started to fill in a sheet, while we were asking to have a look at the campsite before deciding to stay. This was impossible and if we want to have a look and in the meanwhile somebody else would call the site was gone. We wanted to argue this but they, especially the mail owner, where very agressive and they stopped talking with us. We first thought that this all was a misunderstanding and we had a look to the site and came back, but they were still very agrressive and the site was now 5 min later) fully booked. The weirdest expierence ever and I wouldn't recommned this site at all!
Hi Roeland. Just responding to say that from November 2013 the Punakaiki Beach Camp is under new management. Cheers
