Friendly staff at reception and shop.
Huge site, so much space. Very modern facilities (kitchen and bathrooms) all super clean and quiet even in December. Showers are hot, free and on a 10 minute timer which was plenty. Jumping pillow, playground, basketball court for kids and they even had a water slide out when we were there.
Thank you Emily for leaving us a lovely review

Two gravel carparks with amazing views next to a grass area where people put up their camp chairs and tables.
Access to the crystal clear lake for a paddle or swim. There is a cycle track which could be used for a run or walk too. Clean well maintained drop toilets, no other facilities.
Earlier you arrive the better view you can get. We arrived at 4pm and there were a few good spots left.

Compact site but still green and walkable to the Skyline, Ferbergers and the lake so great location.
The shower block we used were very hot, spacious and not on a timer.

No facilities but only $25 for the site not each, it’s essentially three small fields.
Looks out onto the sea.
The seafood bbq place is across the road but opens at 10 and closes when it sells out (1.30 when we were there!) we went back to the sheep shearing show at the campsite and enjoyed it $15 adults $5 kids. Site is only 8mins from the whale watch office (loads of parking there)

Very scenic and peaceful.
You can park right by the water and access the lake. Grass was freshly cut. Main toilets still out of order but plenty of portaloos that were clean enough.
The gravel road wasn’t as bad as I was expecting even in our large motorhome.

Small campsite which packed in a lot of facilities with great access to Real Nz centre via a 10min walk through beautiful woodland by the river.
Also a 10min walk the other direction to Fraser Beach.
Had toilets, showers, laundry, cooking and washing up facilities. Also had a lounge where people could eat, with lots of board games, also had a fire pit and bbq, and table tennis in another little social area.
There are sand flies here.

Long drop toilet look like it had just been built and I think they are still adding facilities.
+ tranquil, the campsite is a small clearing in the bush, hidden off the main road, clean and tidy
Had a huge tank of drinking water available.
- loads of mosquitoes, had booked and been allocated a space but the one other camper on the site, was in it when we arrived, as there is no kind of reception during the day. Lady came to collect money at 8.45pm and was confused why we weren’t in our allocated space.

Small amount of sites, with hot showers, kitchen, laundry and drying room.
There is a cafe and reception by the pools which are accessed through a gate. Campers have exclusive access to the pools in the morning which makes this campsite really worth it, it’s beautiful at 6am and freshly refilled and clean too. There are extra showers and toilets by the pools which. I recommended the 5 minute walk up the ‘eco trail’ to see the hot water spring.
There is a very cheap price for Under 5s and then a child price for over 5s.

We had site 26, which was a good distance away from the entrance so quiet but close enough to the hot shower ($1), laundry (2x $2) and kitchen.
All facilities were very clean and modern. The part of the site was right next to the water. People were swimming paddle boarding etc but we saw jellyfish so stayed out. We also saw a ray swimming.
Site by the water was full. There is another part of the campsite across the road by the office. Office only open certain hours same as the rubbish bin which is a bit annoying as we left in morning before rubbish area was open. Grey water, and fresh water were at each site by the power. The road between here and Picton has 161 bends so keep in mind for anyone with carsickness.

Campsite had great access to the quiet beach.
Grass and trees on site are well kept.
Had facilities, hot showers, toilets, wash and kitchen area with microwave even a rice cooker. Also had a washing line to dry clothes. Everything felt a little basic though. Fresh flowers in the toilet was a nice touch.
There was no rubbish facilities just a selection of recycling particular things.
There were a lot of derelict and permanent looking caravans on the site that made it feel much more run down. They didn’t cause an issue just a bit unsightly.

Foresty site, with privacy but the individual sites aren’t that big, our large camper took up most of ours which was fine when were were there as it was raining so didn’t want to sit out.
Facilities were good - hot showers, toilets, a large kitchen which had a very social feel, and a dump which was handy.
Our site - 21 - backed on to the stream below.

+ Hot showers, cooking & washing area.
+ Each vehicle has its own bay made private by ferns and greenery.
+ views of the mountains and a short drive or Walk to Franz Josef viewing point
- Large vehicles might find it difficult to manoeuvre around the site.
- Can’t pre-book but you can choose your spot when you arrive.
