First time we saw geothermic activity.
We really loved the bubbling champagne pool with its orange edges. The geyser was nice as well.

NIce quiet camping with a river to take a shower.
Nice starting point for a walkway along the Karangahake Gorge walkway. We liked to see the gold mining batteries. Pity that the walkway is so close to the SH2, the windows/crown track was nice.

The van is doing fine.
Everything is working and the explanation at the pickup was clear.

We were really impressed by Tane Mahuta the biggest kauri tree.
We had the honour to see a Japanese filming crew at work and the local range (?). Sang a Maori song about the giant kauri tree.

NIce, quiet camping with a lake to take a shower.
Good spot to head to Wai-o-Tapu early in the morning. Do the round walk before 10.15 when the geyser starts. Take a bath at Kerosene Creek, lovely but with a lovely smell of kerosene.

We had a good look at the kiwi which we come for, but the other birds were less interesting because we had seen most in the wild.
The kea were funny though.

Ranked too high!!!
We did not like it as much as we thought we would. Too popular with not much to see on the way except for the top part. With all the stairs up and down it wasn't much of a track, more an easy walk, although you still have to climb 800m.

Beautiful beach walk underneath white cliffs.
At the end a path leads to the colony and you can get very close to the gannets, 1m!! 18km return trip. Start not earlier than 3 hours after high tide and return no later than 1 1/2 hours after low tide.
