Large grassy pretty flat site where you decide where to pitch.
Green but no views. Short walk to estuary direct from the site .Basic toilet block with cold water and only one of the loos had any paper left. No potable water or bins. The cafe is nice but closes for food at 3.30. The gypsy automata museum.us5 mins walk away and is brilliant. Worth paying the 10$ to see all the exhibits. Very nice bush walk along old possumers track just over the bridge, returning via beach and old coach road track. Took us about 1.5 hours lots of sandflies so we didn't sit outside the van but then again we're puny English. The ozzies and new Zealanders did. Didn't see the sea lions😔

The site itself is actually a little car park with no facilities but you can walk 500m to the public loos.
You can just about see the water from the site but the great thing was you are actually in the little charming town of Akaroa with bric a brac shops, waterfront cafes etc. .

This site is perfect for the doubtful sound day trip and they were happy for us to leave the campervan on the pitch until we returned at 3pm.
You can walk 10 mins to the little ferry port through the woods. The site is fine although pitches are cramped. A couple of showers for each gender with hot water included but basic small cubicles. Sandflies obvs!

Location!
Location! That's what this is all about with minimal facilities but incredible views over Pukaki lake to mount Cook. Mind you, everybody thinks the same so lots of vans and late arrivers struggled to find a flat spot. Plus with so many vans your view may generally be of other vans! Very beautiful tho and we went back for a second night. Off season would be perfect imagine.

Very delicious meals suitable for large appetites! ( We had lamb rump, leeks soubise, sautéed cabbage, roast potatoes and squash. All veg organic and home grown.)Cute ducks in a little paddock. Nice bush walk from the site itself. Extended our stay on a large sized powered grass pitch screened from.neighbours by hedging. Highly recommend.

First site off the plane so can't guarantee I was in a balanced state of mind.
Showers and loos were fine and there was a pool. However the site was cramped with small pitches and no views. The facilities were probably better suited if you had a family with young children. Not cheap.

Best site so far.
Amazing views of the lake from tiered levels of pitches. Each pitch had it's own picnic bench. Great kitchen facilities with outdoor heated plates for BBQ. Clean spacious plentiful warm showers and toilets. Hospitable welcome. Very well organised. Direct access to lakefront through a coded gate where you can walk along the frankton track beside at lake into Queenstown ( 6km). Water taxi back at night takes you 400m from the site. Couldn't fault it tbh.

Great location for walking .
Handy having loos, sinks ,water and rubbish disposal BUT crazy busy ( 2nd week of March). Vans squished in , people parked on either side of the road for half a mile as public car park also chokka and the walks ... we did Sealy Tarns and hooker valley along with the world and his wife. Don't expect mountain peace and solitude unless off season!
