The location is great, and the sites are not too small, but overall, value for money ain’t great.
I’m don’t know why some people have rated this place so high, as the stories all seem the same as ours:
- expensive (why should one have to pay for showers at this price?)
- grumpy manager
- kitchen is ok, but has nothing unless you ask for a kitchen pack from the manager (see note 2)
- wifi is expensive and only works if you sit outside the office
A day trip to the beach from elsewhere would be our advice.

Very nice campground, with great showers and facilities.
It’s close to the waterfront and not too far from town. Sites are large and easy to get into.

Loved it here.
Staff are excellent and always trying to help. Spotlessy clean. One of the bbq burners didn’t work, but they still got a 10!
Good location, literally 5-10 minutes to walk to the waterfront or cycle to the bottom of the gondola.

Nice spot and very nice host.
Showers were good and the kitchen although small was warm and had power. You’re close to walks here and they have a large drying line if you’ve got wets things - quite likely around here.

We didn’t have any trouble with the showers and we did a load of washing.
Great site and great location:
- close to beach, river, good local pub
- Pete does whitebait fritters with icy are nice and also rents the stand up boards and kayaks
Very friendly people and good advice . This is a must-stay location in your West Coast trip and this is the camp ground to stay at.

Our favourite campground this year by far!
Friendly people, great facilities, great location, good coffee, pizza oven, wifi (only works in the kitchen area), dump site, water. Also there is a nice shop and some merch for sale and lots of advice on local walks.

Among the best we stayed in this year!
Perfect location, a great beach and a great pub just up the road. Facilities are clean and they are dispersed around the site so you never have to walk far. The bbqs work- which they don’t at many other camp grounds!

Not far from town yet far enough to avoid the crowds.
The one near the beach reminds me of Orewa as a child (crowded and noisy).
Kitchen was great and the showers were excellent. It’s also very close to the MTB park.

Very quiet spot right on the beach.
Big kitchen which was clean. Showers are pretty good but have morning and afternoon season times. This place has water for your camper but they recommend you boil the water from kitchen taps prior to drinking . It’s probably Ok though.

Very clean, excellent facilities, good location and very well run.
Cost $50 for an unpowered campervan site which is about right
For all the facilities. There is lots for kids here, a cafe and a licensed restaurant. Close to town. There were free sites on the beach that had smelly toilets and very strong wind. No brainer to stay here.

Beautiful spot with friendly managers.
Kitchen is good and lots of fridge space. Great showers. No working BBQ. Great location. There is an MZMCA field attached which is cheaper, having less facilities.

Great location and the men’s shower block was great as was the kitchen.
Women’s was dirty when we were there but there was a change of ownership going on and a confusion in cleaners.
A bit pricey at $60 but probably worth it everything considered.

This place is very run down and the family that seems to have taken over seem a bit disorganised.
Hot pool is small but hot and at least as clean as some other family run hot springs.
It was $40 for 2 which is steep considering there was no shower and the toilets campers can use, out the back of the hotel, were filthy.

We loved this place.
Yes, a bit old and may need some repairs here and there but the managers are great and very friendly. They organised a Kiwii listening expedition for us!
Local community people were also great. The local shop makes pretty good coffee and will cook fish you have caught for you.
Showers took a long time to get hot but are very hot when they do. Go here!

It’s nice, and $20 per person for non powered site, so average price.
However come Easter and the facilities were strained. They packed the people in and it became very noisy.
