What a view!
Straight down Lake Pukaki to Mount Cook. A large area with plenty of room, but very few flat spots. Toilets clean and open all night but at one end of the site, so may be a long walk. Remember your torch!

Super site.
Yes it is more expensive than most but it is worth it, especially if you have an early morning activity on the Sound. As other reviews have said, the sites are a bit like being in a maze with individual areas surrounded by trees/bushes. Not sure what they would be like for bigger motor homes but it was perfect for our small van. Didn’t eat in the restaurant, as it was a little expensive for our budget but we did treat ourselves to a tasty gin and tonic. Food we saw looked good. The site has excellent facilities. Plenty of showers/toilets, a good sized kitchen and a comfortable loung and dining area. This was brilliant to keep away from the sandflies.

Plenty of spaces in this car park.
Clean toilets which are open all night. Also has dish washing sink, dump station and water. Super coffee shop right next to the car park. A great stop for a night.

Excellent site.
Quiet with good views of the distant mountains. Extremely well maintained and super facilities. All immaculate. Lovely to wander around and feed the sheep, goats and lamas. Would definitely recommend this site

Excellent site with amazing views of Mount Cook.
Site is well maintained and pitches spaced out especially the non powered ones. Plenty of showers/toilets, a coin operated laundry area and great kitchen/dining/lounge area. Not cheap but well worth it after a few nights freedom camping.

Superb site.
Level and very well maintained pitches. Clean facilities including hot showers and great size kitchen area. Quiet and calm in a beautiful riverside location. The only down side was the longish road to the site. Worth it though

Excellent freedom site with view over beautiful beach.
Short walk to “village store’ which sells basics and also good fish and chips. There are a couple of food huts next door where you can buy ice cream and pizza. Toilets are open all night and well lit but not very clean after a busy Sunday. Great place for the night.

An excellent site 10 minutes drive from the ferry terminal.
Quite a small site with some spaces taken by longer term campers but it is immaculately maintained and landscaped in such a way that you do not feel crowded. Superb facilities with washers, dryers, showers/toilets, kitchen and bbq area. All spotless! A perfect place for a reset after a few days staying at freedom sites.

A large car park next to a sports field with spaces available from 6pm til 8am.
Public toilets close by and are open all night. A short walk to a small supermarket, butchers, bakers and an excellent coffee shop. There is also an ‘English’ pub. Excellent location for visiting local wineries especially if you do it by bike. We would highly recommend Wine Tours by Bike who are within walking distance of the domain.

Stayed here for one night while visiting friends in the town basin.
Was perfect for that. Like most freedom sites in towns, it is a car park with public toilets. But toilets were clean and open all night, small bins for rubbish and fairly quiet. 20 min walk from town basin.

A perfect place for exploring Auckland.
Janet was an excellent host with plenty of local information, tips and tricks. There is room on the drive for two vans with electric hook up for one of them. Use of a large garden with tables and a bbq. Also excellent washroom with large, hot shower. Morningside Station is 10 minute walk with direct access to central Auckland. (Make sure that you already have a HOP card as he station is unmanned and does not have a machine). We spent theee nights here and would thoroughly recommend it. Many thanks Janet and Basker.

This has the potential to be a wonderful site.
Great location with limited competition. Well maintained grass areas for tents and camper vans. Also has a kitchen area and shower/toilet block. Unfortunately there seems to be a lack of basic maintenance to the building ie louvres missing from ladies shower doors, no locks on men’s toilets and the building are starting to show signs of wear and tear. Such a shame, as could be lovely.

Excellent site with good facilities including kitchen and showers/toilets.
Seems expensive but you get access to hot pools included. We paid $60 for 2 people on unpowered site but hot pools would have cost $25 per person. It was quiet so we had access to pools from when we arrived at 5pm until it closed at 7pm and then the next morning as well. Definitely worth a nights stay

An excellent site on the outskirts of Paihia.
Friendly and helpful staff in the office when booking and on arrival made us feel very welcome. We were pleasantly surprised that the site was quite small, as we were expecting a large holiday park . It had well spaced pitches with a view of the water and a really chilled feel to it. Good facilities including kitchen, dining area, washroom/showers, laundry and outdoor BBQ. Would recommend it.

Beautiful location overlooking the bay.
Level and well maintained grass pitches. Two large toilet/shower blocks, two laundry areas and a large kitchen area with several electric hobs, kettles and toasters. All areas were clean. Showers are coin operated ($1) but we couldn’t get hot water. Also the hobs we tried were very slow to heat so ended up using our campervan gas hob. Cash only.

First experience of freedom camping.
This was exactly as reviews described, a few spaces in a car park at a reserve. Toilets available all night and well maintained. Excellent for a one night stop and then a good walk to the falls the next morning. The only slight downside was that the spaces are right next to the road …. But what do you expect for free!

Car park with clean public toilets which stay open all night.
Lots of spaces but does fill up quickly. Good access to supermarkets and usually small town shops. Close to bus links to central Wellington but we walked along waterside. Took about 90 mins but the sun was shining and it was a pleasant view.

Exactly what the description says.
Quiet location within a park area. Some sites seem to be taken by longer term campers but not a problem for other campers. Clean and tidy site with public toilets. $7 per person. Good overnighter

As already noted in the description and in previous reviews this is a public carpark in the centre of town.
There are about 20 spaces available outside of paid parking times ie 6pm til 8am. There are public toilets which seem to be cleaned regularly but they are closed overnight from about 7pm due to issues with vandalism. We were there on. A Sunday night and had no noise issues, probably because most of town was closed. There were a few restaurants and bars open on the main street which suited us as we didn’t want to sit around in the car park. A very practical stop for one night
North Island ▷ Northland ▷ Kerikeri ▷
5.0/5
A small family run site with several powered hard standing areas and a well maintained, level grass area for tents/small vans not requiring power.
There are two toilets and two showers which looked new and were immaculate and also a laundry area with coin a coin operated washing machine and dryer. Change was available at the office. There is no kitchen or dining area (which is made very clear on the website and at the time of booking), but several picnic benches and also an outdoor washing up area. It was a perfect stop between Paihia and Kerikeri.
