We haven’t seen one sign post.
We even met a van that left before us, probably because they didn’t know where to park. We aren’t sure we weren’t in the right place but there isn’t any network there so no way to check. Quiet place though, completely on our own. No toilets.

At the dog’s park there is another freedom camping area which isn’t mentioned on the app and where you can go (has 5 marked spots), toilets and is very quiet next to the Forest wineyard.

If there were bathrooms on the site it would definitely be a 10.
Beautiful view, by the sea, quiet neighbourhood, tables to eat and only 2 spots. You need to get there early in the summer. It was full by 15:30 on the day we got there. Definitely one of our favourite camping in Nz.

Great place by the dam with toilets and tables to eat.
If you can get there by 16:00 you can see the last rapids of the day. Quiet and plenty of place.

A car park for free and every facilty you might need for a few dollars.
But to use them you need a kiwi card, not that practical. Good toilets, perfect for one night before the Tongariro Crossing.

Huge parking lot with signs to where to park near the city.
No toilets during the night: There were closed as we get there at 17:00. Some people seemed to use it to do car races. Not the quietest place and not so recommandable.

We were the only van in the middle of campervans and motorhomes but it’s a quiet place near toilets and very easy to access.
Perfect for one night on the way to the Coromandel’s.

Parking behind a city park.
Get‘s noisy at 05:30 as it‘s a pick up area for big trucks. Other than that there is a cafe/backery on the other side of the street such as luxury public toilets.

Nice medium-prize camping with common kitchen, bathrooms although a little pricy : 22£ pp for an unpowered site.
Close to the Doubtful sound ferry station and very practical therefore.
