Great campsite, better suited to small vehicles for the real nice spots.
When you get down the wee hill, if you’re no bigger than say our 7-metre Sprinter van you can head down to the left, if it’s not busy. These limited spots here are gorgeous, but lots of tree cover so not very good for solar, or Starlink. On the other side, to the right, is a larger area, more suited for bigger vehicles, but not as serene I guess. We’ve stayed before, but moved on this time. Fantastic free camp!
Thanks Kingston! We were able to get close to where the beach starts, but goodness, we witnessed 3 folks get bogged, locals and tourists. Don't arrive when it's dark, especially in winter, if it's going to get cold over night, don't go down the wee slopes, get out of your vehicle and have a look where you're going first. Big-rigs might struggle in here, however our friends towing a 24ft caravan did manage to fit and stay! Toilets and bins provided. Self-contained only, although there were a couple in tents. Keep it clean! Keep it free! @tasmantravels

We just spent about four nights here, was great!
We were able to get right next to the short, big-rigs may need to park further at the entrance, small turning circle. Beautifully peaceful. Beautiful views and hardly any sandflies. We had limited phone signal On Vodafone, Starlink worked well though. Mostly the only folks here! Lots of bird life. DOC popped in once or twice. DOC campsite pass valid. @tasmantravels

An absolute gem!
Beautiful this time of year! Very few here as it’s a wee bit chilly, but gorgeous! Massive site, lots of different spots away from trees for solar, entry in is a wee bit tight. No phone signal at all, but Starlink works a treat! Plenty of loo’s but they were mingin, though DOC did come round. Really loved it! Breathtaking views, and lots of sandflies. We did move sites early as one morning though as it rained hard and the river rose! DOC Campsite Pass is valid here, otherwise it’s $15.00 per adult! Make sure you do the little nature walk to Lake Gunn! Was great! Find us on YouTube! TASMAN TRAVELS

An absolute winter fave!
We just spent a week here, were mostly the only ones and it is stunning!!! Lots of space to spread out, great views and so peaceful this time of year. Heard it’s packed in peak season! The walk around the lake is a must do. Boil-first water is here, but turned off in winter and there are loos, didn’t use these though. No phone signal, Starlink works good though. If you’re big, we’re 7-metres, bigger than us, check out the entry road before you do it. Very few places to pull over and we did meet traffic on entry and exit, and every so often big trucks come down! Great spot though! We’ll be back! Find us on YouTube if you’re touring TASMAN TRAVELS

We recently had three great nights here!
Very quiet and peaceful and nice views. There is a lower and higher section to camp! Might be a bit awkward after a lot of rain. Some really good walks from here! Not sure on the toilet situation, but the blocks are still there. Good signal on phone and TV. Nice spot!! DOC Campsite Pass is valid here. @tasmantravels

Hey! We recently had 5 lovely, quiet nights here!
Very well maintained, bins, loos, sort of shaded sink area. A bit tight if busy, but wasn't where we were there. Hard to find a level spot on the lower level, but lovely, and very quiet. The lake is gorgeous for a swim. Can't camp down on the foreshore, campsite is further back. Good phone signal. Oh, FYI, we heard an NZMCA member telling a fellow NZMCA member that NZMCA members don't have to pay for DOC campsites out of peak season, this isn't true, at all, NZMCA members get discounts, but do have to pay, unless of course you have the DOC Campsite Pass like we do! We'll definitely be back! Find us on YouTube if you're touring, TASMAN TRAVELS

Just had two lovely nights here, again.
This is definitely a favourite, the chatty local Dave is still here which is, nice, he just wants a chat, and his lovely dog Nuggy is still running around saying hey to everyone, sadly the pig is gone, I’ll let Dave tell you what happened there. There are perhaps three bays, enough for up to about six vans, we’re in a 7-metre Sprinter and reversed in to the space fine, be considerate. Great fishing, full signal, bins, lovely beach and a very clean drop loo if you need it. Got quite busy over the weekend with rowers. Lovely spot! See ya’ll out there! Tasman Travels
