$25 per person for no power site -- so it's a good deal if you're solo, but overpriced for a group in one vehicle.
No power area is a single lawn and a bit hilly. Kitchen was fine. When we visited, hot pool was crowded.

Lots of space -- we had no problem finding a spot when we arrived after sundown.
Close and easy access from Hobbiton. Some noise from other campers but none from the road. Basic bathrooms, no electricity (very dark at night!) and no trash cans or potable water. Pretty spot.

We got the last spot at 6pm after arriving by ferry, but the next night there were open spots all night.
Bathrooms and trash cans. Felt safe and very convenient -- easy bus into town (or a long but pretty walk). Patrolled daily to check for Self Contained stickers.

The free parking lot is huge and easy, with access to toilets and a water spigot.
If you want tonuse any of the other amenities, you need a Kiwi Card fob and app. We arrived late so there was no way to use the shower since we didn't have a fob.
Shuttle to Tongariro Crossing can be booked at the hostel down the street for $55 return -- they pick up right at the lot.

So convenient to town!
It's worth a drive by to check for spots, bc vans came and went all day.

Here in Nov.
Lot almost filled up but folks were quiet. Some highway noise, big field with picnic tables, functional bathroom. Highlight is that at sundown you can walk 5 minutes up on the port road and look down on the penguins popping out of the sea to head for their nests in the rocks.
